Re: John at The Showbox 4/7/13
Good summary, Pahouk. Though I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed. I would have enjoyed watching a rehearsal quality show if I didn't have to pay $100 for tickets + babysitter. Throughout, John's unique ability to truly entertain via banter stood out but unfortunately 30+ minutes of banter by t...

Impressive! Though I was equally struck by the use of mirrors...evoked a disconcerting memory of a dancing in front of mirrors to Shriekback at a teen dance/juice bar back in the 80s...

Re: Thirteen Songs
Holy My God. Lost in Love? Did we have to go there? Suddenly I'm back at the Eastridge Ice Arena in an aqua leotard with matching wraparound skirt. The routine I created to the title track of that album was breathtaking. I was seriously channeling Tai Babilonia. You have no idea who I'm talking abo...

I'm starting to wonder if this "album in progress" isn't just John attempting to induce Stockholm Syndrome in his followers...sour29 wrote:Episode two, now online!

Re: crocuses
The first crocus in my yard bloomed last weekend...but we don't really have a serious winter here in the NW. When I lived in the midwest, seeing one emerge from under some melted snow was a real source of inspiration.

Great videos! John's singing feels more evocative than usual...but maybe it's just the lack of snarky interludes.

San Francisco treats?
Hi all! I'm heading down to SF next week and wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations for places to check out for fun or food (or both). This is the first time that I'll have lots of time to explore the city (the other times the I've been there, I spent 90% of my time at the conference cente...

Re: lyrical inspiration?
are you saying that John should write about the cheese, or eat it to know what to write about? Either or both...I think TLW could pull off "the cheese has been drinking, not me" nod to Tom Waits but I also think that if John ate the cheese (which by the way tastes a bit like unsalted butter, but in...

lyrical inspiration?
I just checked out John's Twitter account and he appears to be searching for material for lyrics on the new album. Seems like we could provide some ideas? Personally, I find that snacking on drunken goat cheese releases some "creativity endorphins:" http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41a0J-RHVDL....
