Those pictures were taken in the summer, so the white jacket is legit.

Re: Article by John in the Seattle Weekly Reverb Residency
I think the "meh" commenters are just what you expect when you write for a wider audience. I use to take it personally. I'm sure I've told you the story before, but Dave Eggers once asked me if I read reviews of my own work, and when I said "Yes", he grabbed me by the shirt and shouted "Don't read r...

Re: Help Mike complete his Barsuk collection
That shirt was three inside jokes in one! I can't believe we ever sold a single one, let alone that it would be in demand almost nine years later. "Don't Yell at Me". Hilarious. The last one I saw was at least five years ago. Sorry. And I completely forgot we even made a Nietzsche shirt. Haven't see...

The Aimee Mann fan is a reoccurring character played by Jon Wurster, drummer of Superchunk and Mountain Goats. I am not making this up.

Re: Chase Jarvis' Seattle 100
I thought the concept of a "Seattle 100" was, although flattering, also a little suspect. Who Seattle's 100 most influential people are is surely a question of who you ask, and of who does the asking. So, anyway, I'm not such an anarchist that I would turn down the honor, and Chase is a great photog...

Re: Article by John in the Seattle Weekly Reverb Residency
The thing that precipitated me writing about superfans--beyond the primary reason of needing to get back into the swing of writing a weekly column and having forgotten completely how to do it--was an email I got from a gal in Seattle who was deeply devastated that a band she'd been championing had r...

Re: Article by John in the Seattle Weekly
Sour is correct, "talking shit" always happens behind someone's back. And, yes, I'm going to start writing my column again every week. I'm excited about it and I think it might actually help me finish our record faster. I've learned that I need to keep busy. I mean, busy writing, rather than constan...

Bear in mind that the original version of Fire Island was recorded as a full band version too, and is the one on the vinyl release of Ultimatum.

That may be true, but I can't think of a time when I played it with the guitar riff like that. What do you think of this version? Too stripped down?

Re: Central Park SummerStage Show, 6/8/10
In all honesty, the show was an abortion. Aimee and I did Only Living Boy, and we did it fine, although she transposed it up a step-and-a-half to make it easier for her to sing making it impossible for anyone to sing the Garfunkel parts, high or low. So we traded verses and sang in unison. There was...

I am supposedly playing piano on a Spoon cover in a band featuring Leslie Beatty, Shelby Earl, and Rachel Flotard. I have not rehearsed or listened to the song.
