FEMA Detainment Camps

I read that story today, and wasn't nearly as shocked as I should have been. I was kind of waiting to hear about such things...

FEMA is dangerous, in my opinion, and not just because of incompetence at the highest levels...

John's beard is meticulously groomed, pampered and brilliantly maintained. Borderline OCD. I'd eat steak and eggs out of it any day of the week (and twice on Sunday, when it's two-for-one steak and eggs). When trimmed, it's kind of like one of those uppity Pomeranian show dogs. When I shot photos, t...

lineup

Mr. Squires joined J-Rod with Bo and M. Shilling for belted-out renditions of "Never Tear Us Apart" (INXS) and Zepplin's "All My Love" at Aaron Huffman's wedding reception at The Baltic Room mid-May.

It was a sight.

I'm looking forward to new things.

DIW

I wonder if The Long Winters would receive any compensation for sales of the record...

...considering most of the editorial and photography staff recently left the magazine due to non-payment. I was hired to shoot two photos for DIW, and never got a dime for either.

Cloward can go suck it.

The whole story.

http://www.rawkpaperscissors.name/blogspot/beard.gif Note: I did not edit this picture. It's actually the full, uncropped photograph. So Schierling can't get mad at me. (he he he) Actually, the full, uncropped photo shows that John's beard flows into a heaping plate of chicken fried steak and eggs,...

If you've seen John's beard lately, you understand why Thompson thought he was shooting at a bear. And I guess that explains the limp.

My trying to read between the lines has only caused me more grief, and gotten me nowhere. So I'm working on "Smokestack Lightening" by Lolis Eric Elie (w/ photographs by Frank Stewart) in the afternoons. Just before bed is spent with any number of Stephen Dunn books - currently "Riffs & Reciproc...

As usual, I'm way behind on the uptake...

If anyone would like to trade a mix CD with me, send me an email. I'd like to think I have good taste, and dig what all the hep kids are dancing to.

Yeah.

stock photography

I wish it were easier to break into. And unless you're with one of the huge agencies (Getty, Corbis, etc.), you still don't get much of a percentage of royalties.

Seems quite reasonable, considering no usage is specified...

I've been trying to read between the lines for the last week. It's not working out.

So I'm going to paw at photo books instead - "Showtime" by Steve Gullick, and "A Lifetime Shooting Sports & Beauty" by Walter Iooss.

Indeed, it was Zebrahead. Which will give you a good idea of why I was facing the opposite direction of the stage. Not a terribly memorable set, but the Hot Topic demographic seemed to enjoy it - so I focused on them.

Battle of the Beards

Who would win? John Roderick's beard or Sam Beam's? The battle would take place in an abandoned Schick warehouse. Roderick's facial hair would be armed with the Remington MB30 Precision Cordless Rechargable Beard Trimmer, a trial-size tube of Jack Black beard lube and a Personna Flicker Classic, whi...

John, if you're stranded in DFW, you should go stay with my parents in lovely Arlington, a short 20 minute drive away from the airport. My 88-year-old grandfather will be there as well, fresh off a gambling trip to Shreveport with my Dad, where I'm sure they beat the hell out of the slots, against a...

Two for two - Naughty or nice?

I've got a photo of HotRod Santa last year, with a coy blonde straddling him at the Crocodile. And this year's snap has him with a helpful handful of Stranger writer Jennifer Maerz's derrier (in all fairness, she certainly LOOKED to be sliding off Santa's lap). In my opinion, being Santa is a very g...
