Re: Recording your own music
Scouring the junk shops and craigslist and so forth might be the way to go. I sprung for a Behringer B1 (http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/B-1.aspx ) which was $60 I think with the case and shock mount. It's been great for recording vocals into either GarageBand or Logic Express - nice transparen...

Re: LW in gas station
It's crossed my mind, but there is just no conceivable way the owner knows who the LW are.Liesbeth wrote:I like this.
Have you ever struck up a conversation about it to the owner? There might a great story behind it.
Plus, it's kind of nice to have a minor mystery like this around.

LW in gas station
I can't believe I forgot to post this here... ...I live in Emeryville, CA (home of Pixar and not much else), and on the street I take to I-80 on a regular basis there is a standard-issue Chevron gas station/convenience store. I often pop in for smokes, gas, propane and propane accessories, etc. Over...

Re: guitar tabs
Keith's famous for only playing five strings, but I love the extra wobble I get from those unison G strings. They're never quite exactly in tune once you hit them, so it's a weird light chorus effect. But Keith had other stuff to think about I guess. Indeed he did. I caught a chunk of "Let's Spend ...

Re:
Prom night is an open G tuning, GGDGBD capo'd at the second fret. Strum all the strings open, then make a chord with the "first" fret (allowing for the capo) of the B string and the "second" fret of the low D string with all other strings played open. Now barre that and move it around. You can now ...

Re: Question about Nabil's Drums on the DVD
That's ridiculous about Nabil's BPM variation, but is also a testament to his ability rock out with his chops out. I can't stand playing to a click, myself. It's the most unnatural and robotic form of playing music, ever, so I sympathize with JR's being "so far ahead". I'm interested to hear the ne...

this is what i have http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0961405021 Nice. A good friend of mine who's a singer/songwriter in Austin has had one of these for years and it's a solid axe - he beats the crap out of that thing, and it keeps its tune and even sounds nice enough for recording...

My Tech 21 Trademark 60 has close-to-tube warmth and tone BUT only weighs 30 lbs... I had never heard a Tech 21 (other than the sansamp modules) until I auditioned for a band over in San Rafael - didn't get the gig, but I got hooked on the tone the other guitarist was getting - luckily I scored one ...

My lineup- My main (and, honestly, my only "good") axe is a reissue (Mex-made) '72 Fender Tele Deluxe, black (natch) - this is the Keef model, 2 humbuckers, amp knobs, fat strat neck. I was always pretty staunchly anti-Fender (for myself, not as a political statement), but the first time I touched t...

You know, I've never really owned any cool pedals. I still have this old Korg ToneWorks multi-effects unit that's mildly good - it has an expression pedal, built-in chromatic tuner, etc. But noisy and I've never had much use for comb filters and that kind stuff. Currently all I have is a Fender tune...

Of course if a guitar's nice I've never really cared who made it. Exacty. I recenty bought a First Act Paul Westerberg signature model for like $90 new, and its solid as a rock, sounds cool, looks cool (well, the plaid pickguard is a little cheesy: http://www.firstact.com/Artists/Paul_Westerberg.as...

I don't own a Gibson or an Epiphone (which ostensibly functions as their "budget line"), but I've played a ton both as loaners and in shops. What surprises me nowadays is the lack of quality control on "regular" (non-custom shop) Gibsons. It's to the point where the QC on Epiphones seems much better...
