Y'all are so lucky! My roommate and I decorated the house for Christmas last night while wearing flip flops and t-shirts. I've seen snow literally four times in my life.

Y'all be sure to have some extra fun for us here in Texas.

I wish I wasn't a poor social worker and could have afforded myself rather than as a Christmas gift (is any of this making someone out there who can get their hands on one at a local store feel sorry enough for me to ship it to me, shipping covered by me of course???). Just kidding, but man, I check...

I had to work on Thanksgiving. Actually, I had to work A LOT on Thanksgivnig. I worked from 12am until 8am that morning then came back from 4pm until midnight. For those of you who don't know, I work in a homeless shelter for youth. Luckily my co-worker was equiped with the knowledge to make the big...

Yeah, some people were yelling for an encore after the rest of the band left the stage. John obliged and played/sang the cover by himself. I didn't know what he was covering though, which is why I left it out.

I too was watching the OC tonight. Let's just say that I was tied up and being forced to watch it as torture. Someone was trying to get the secret of what pancakes do out of me at any cost or something like that. Anyways..... I was shocked but happy to here "Fire Island, AK". Hooray for The Long Win...

I just made a trip down to Houston again tonight to see Minus The Bear in a smaller venue than those in Austin. They were good and did many new songs, however, one of their opening bands made my ears want to cry. Husky Rescue has an interesting sound. Try the song "Summertime Cowboy". Also, I know a...

It doesn't look like anyone has covered the show in Houston on 9/19 at Walter's On Washington. I'll give it a shot to help out, but the list will be short. I am only going to list the ones that I am SURE about and they are not in order. The show in Austin at ACL was just three days earlier and I don...

I don't think I can write fiction. This sounds fun though. Maybe I'll be in on it when they do the non-fiction version.

Good luck to everyone!

I second the pancake shirt! Maybe it could come with the book rather than a real pancake?

C-dog, I had not heard of "Art from the Streets". The homeless shelter that this program runs out of, ARCH, is for adults. Unfortunately, I am primarily familiar with the youth programs in Austin. I work for LifeWorks and our shelters are strictly for youth. It sounds really amazing though. I can se...

Well, I think the answer is, when they are ready to be flipped over, they form bubbles around the edges. A more appropriate question would have been, "What do pancakes do when they are ready to be flipped over?". That is not how it went down though. The book, 'What Pancakes Do' would include various...

Hello everyone! The name comes from some ridiculous stories I sent John about receiving cooking lessons at work from an angry 74 year old woman. It is hard to explain how my e-mails naturally evolved in that direction though. Well, one lesson dissolved into her badgering me with the question "what d...

100th member

Hooray, I think I was the 100th member of TLW flickr group! I would like to introduce myself to the board. I am a big fan of The Long Winters and John Roderick. I've been reading the board for a few weeks now and would love to be a part of it. I've been listening to TLW since 2003 and recently saw t...
