75 or Less rocks!!!

thanks for posting that! what a great site!

i personally think that '75 words or less or shut the fuck up' rule should be applied to just about everything, most especially poetry and reviews of any kind.

John is lying by ommission. In addition to the keyboard, John does, in fact, play with Jupiter's wife the Queen of Heaven, Goddess of light, birth, marriage and women. I've seen it.

(And also, occasionally, the capital of Alaska.)

I think I'm with Shawn on the virtues of ending WIPTF with Cinnamon. Although it hadn't occurred to me, and if asked I probably would've picked New Girl for it's straight-up rockin good-timeyness. Nora's just a bit heavy, which is ok if you want the album to end with a good solid whumph that sits he...

Admittedly, I listen almost exclusively to bands that my friends are in, which means that the only people who have ever heard of them are the other people who hang out in the dive bars I tend to frequent in my two home ports, Austin TX and Minneapolis MN. Some of these bands do actually have CDs and...

Clear Channel is a media conglomerate. They own 1232 radio stations. (ie. most of the stations in the US), and way too many live music venues. Listen to the interview I posted earlier. It's really pretty informative.

Confession: I didn't go to see TLW the first time they came through Mpls. because they were playing a Clear Channel venue. (However, I did see y'all later that night (I realize now after reading Sean's diary) at the Malkmus show. I only dimly recognized Sean (the hair is hard to miss), but having on...

It is my opinion (and I freely admit that I can be a bit delusional at times) that most people will recognize and gravitate toward quality when and if they are actually exposed to it. However, most people are too tired, angry, frustrated, depressed etc. to put much energy into seeking high quality i...

Clear Channel

Well, personally, I blame Clear Channel. How is anyone supposed to hear about a band if none of the radio stations are playing them and they can't get a tour put together because they don't have somebody at Clear Channel working for them? Grrrrr. Way too much personal experience with this one... A r...

What a bunch of silly kids! I love the way John looks like he's perpetually on the verge of giggling when he sings. I'm not sure if that's irony or actual glee, but either way it's endearing. And the Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo video is totally badass. I had no idea Sean was such a fine dancer!!

I also just met a girl from Seattle who had never heard of The Long Winters, although she did seem to vaguely recognize Harvey Danger. She seems to be more into the jazz scene, though. I, of course, urged her to check out an LW show as soon as humanly possible.

Hmmmm. From what I can gather 'joycore' bands are all about happy silly frivolity and jumping up and down. I mean ALL about it. I think that, while I can certainly jump up and down to the LW (and the fact that my five year old is a fan is also telling), there is way too much depth and complexity, bo...
