Unless you give me 5 reasons that I should. 1) I'm sure John appreciates geeky discussions about his writings 2) There is not that much happening on this board right now 3) I'm bored (New Year's Eve Day at the office = yawn) 4) Writing exercises are always GOOD 5) This article deserves better respo...

Re: Help Mike complete his Barsuk collection

My snowblower tee is faded to all holy hell. I've worn it at least twice a month for six and a half years now (time does fly!). Even though it's design is all but invisible, it still is in the regular rotation.

I think hands-on experience beats college education in A LOT of cases. Many fields of study seem to be mostly self-serving (esp. arts), all you can do with a degree is to become a college teacher yourself. Yeah, I learned this one that hard way. Film Studies degree. Basically means I can watch movi...

That sounds like a lot of fun, but I'm afraid I'm too far away to make it. Have a great time, and break a leg! :)

Corpernicus For the first verses, start with an octave on the D, and then do a walk down (C#, B, A), leavving your ring finger on the 7th fret of the G string. If you want to fill it out a bit, you can also play the F# on the 7th fret of the B string alongside the D on the G. Then: D F#m You called ...

Re: Documentary Film about The Long Winters

That video has seen the rounds (no pun intended) a few times. I think it's been posted here thrice in some place or another. I don't know why it was re-uploaded, but definitely a fun video. Clearly not everyone's seen it, which, in my eyes, makes it worthy of another link! To the YouTubes, boardies!

Re: Article by John in the Seattle Weekly Reverb Residency

I get that there's a reason why a lot of songs get played in the same order frequently. Maybe they use the same guitars (or worse, the same tuning!), the same pedal settings, or the songs work better in tandem than they do separately, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating for the seasoned fan....

No offense to Nada Surf, for example, but I think on every show I"ve seen the past few years, great as they were, they've opened and closed with exactly the same songs... You know what? For the first handful of Nada Surf songs I went to, they were quite different and very enjoyable. Then they ...
