Count me in, too. My semester's over next Monday, which gives me plenty of time to rock a mix.

(In case you couldn't tell, I'm pretty much counting the days for this to be over. The concept of reading for pleasure is lost on me now. 7 more days...)

"Pop songs..." is one of those songs that has always grated on me. Indie elitism at its best/worst.

has anyone donated to the kindercore defense fund yet?

but on with the game:

No matter how many times I try (I've even bought three of their records), I can't get into the Dismemberment Plan. My theory is that I'm "allergic." (How one can be "allergic" to a band, I don't know. But I am.) I've seen them a few times and watched everyone else rocking out, but I just don't get i...

Music on the continuum drawn between Bram Tchaikovsky, Cheap Trick up to actionslacks and Death Ray Davies. Check out the Poptopia! comps that came out on Rhino a few years back, especially the '70s one. Stuff like Nazz, the Raspberries. Poptastic. One of the DIY comps (also on Rhino, possibly out ...

Philadelphia on the 25th?

Is this show really happening? I saw it on the Barsuk site, but not on here. If it is, I will be trekking to Northern Liberties. I've yet to see any bands at the Fire, but the Weekly gave it a good writeup last week as a very "artist-friendly" venue . (A refreshing change from the Khyber, I assume.....

Re: the thing is

the thing is: i have suggested that the long winters cover monkees songs, specifically songs from pisces, aquarius, capricorn & jones ltd. "Salesman" would be brilliant. As would "The Door Into Summer." Damn, I love that record, even though "Cuddly Toy" totally creeps me out. Of course, I attempted...

Re: i wonder

which monkee was "the scholarly one"? i hope it was mike. not exactly the rock n roll fantasy, but one takes what one can get. Well, Mike did age the best of all the Monkees, so you'd have that to look forward to. Then again, one could argue that Peter was the Scholarly One, in an idiot savant/spir...

well, as space-consuming as athens, ga features in my personal universe (and it's BIG there), wouldn't it realistically be in the nyc-miami urban corridor? at least it was the last time i looked at a map... *shrug* This is my strict New England bias -- I grew up within 20 minutes of the ocean and c...

This was hard for me, because right now I'm in the south and next week I'll be moving back northeast to Philadelphia. So, do I choose where I'm going to be or where I am now? I went for where I'm now, if only because no one was representing below the Mason-Dixon. I don't consider where I am (Athens,...

Also, Moment in the Sun becomes much funnier when you find out that Eef wrote it as if he was Jewel. That's funny stuff. And, as a result. It's the Best. Jewel. Song. Ever. I can't recommend Clem Snide enough. And their side project, Pee Wee Fist, does a mean cover of "Bad Boys for Life." It's a sh...

Is it '60s pop Neil Diamond or '70s schlock Neil Diamond? (both of which have merits, I say...) Or is it something worse...recent Neil?

That is pretty darn funny...
