That was a really good show, especially notable for the version of Only Living Boy in New York featuring three-part harmonies by John, Matthew and Sean.

I get the chills just thinking about it. Great moment.

Re: Long Winters at Doe Bay Festival Aug. 15, 2009

I would also suggest seeing Weinland if you go.

That guy writes and sings songs that make me feel like my own personal heartbreaks are trivial when compared to his. I don't know what happened to him, or who broke his heart, but damn...

Re: Long Winters at Doe Bay Festival Aug. 15, 2009

I went to Doe Bay Fest last year and in addition to the music, the setting is a real treat. If they're still available they have yurts and domes to stay in tucked into the woods above the bay, affording some great views. I don't have too much experience in such places, but the compound has a real hi...

Re: Thirteen Songs

I had toyed with a sort of regular video dispatch format along these lines a long time ago, but was strongly discouraged from doing so by John himself, convinced that it would be a better idea to get the word out when the project (I thought he was talking about the doc, but he could have meant his a...

Re: John at EMP Pop Conference

I think it's fair to say that, removed of the sexuality-laced connotations often associated with the word, every regular participant on this board would gladly wear the Groupie title. I certainly wouldn't, but that's because I only know the term Groupie in a derogatory connotation, even with the se...

Re: John at EMP Pop Conference

That was a well done recap, Zach. One of the things I felt was really glossed over during the session was a sense of the mutual benefit both parties gain from the groupie/musician relationship (I don't mean "groupie" in the pejorative sense of the word - just using it as the name). Unsurpr...

I am registered and plan on attending, but I'm pretty sure revealing the secrets of "groupie-fu" is a crime punishable by death.

Sheryl Crow and JRod hooking up would create the next great gossip column couple: "CROWDERICK".

Re: How to be a musician when you're not that good of a musician

I've never understood the whole, "For $XX, they better _______!" mentality before making a ticket purchase. To go into something primed with that kind of attitude seems to me to be a setup for disappointment. It's up to the performer to determine what you get. You're just paying for the ch...

Re: The Official Live at the Showbox DVD thread

But why does Adam sound like he's leaning in through the window? Could you afford only one (unidirectional) mic for the recording of the commentary? :) That commentary track was the focus of more than a little bit of discord. From the beginning it was something that I was sure that I wanted to do i...

The Official Live at the Showbox DVD thread

ORDER THE DVD HERE

The Documentary thread is getting junked up with conversation pertaining to this, so maybe a splinter thread is in order.

Have you seen it yet? Where did you buy it? Have you read reviews about it? Where? What do you think of it?

Re: Documentary Film about The Long Winters

I feel like the anticipation felt in looking forward to something is an important thing to stoke, and if no one knows about this until it's out there is no anticipation to build. I think something valuable is lost there. Alternatively, the idea that someone will see something about this and immediat...
