Characters, you say? Excellent! Outstanding! Hen hao, likewise! It's all chicken scratches to me, you understand. Any alphabet with more than 28 figures leaves me utterly confounded. MacGyver - one of those Lochaber fellows, mixed up with the Campbells and so on? Hold on, that's a MacIver. All wrong...

Odd thing about brass - lovely for a stirring march or some vigorous genres of Caribbean dancehall music (and here I refer to the "ska" phenomenon so popular in Jamaica and elsewhere), but rarely soothing or, dare I say, melancholy , except in Classical arrangements and ensembles currently fallen in...

Not a fan of sweets, aside from little bon-bons and the chocolate ginger biscuits one takes with tea. But a pipe of MacBaren's Latakia Blend is just the thing at close of day when ambling about a bit in the country. Hah! Used to swear by the Condor Ready Rubbed, but tastes change as wisdom increases...

Quite, quite. Was tempted, you know, to describe the accordion as the Prince of Free Reeds up in the poll descriptions, but, well, it was clearly giving me enough guff on its own without any external complications. I've got a DaVinci squeezebox at home - obtained for less than $80 through the auspic...

What do you think of the implications of superstring theory that imply the existence of up to seven dimensions of space-time? Are these literal dimensions or metaphorical descriptions of relations between objects? Who killed JFK? The anthrax attacks of 2001: foreign terrorist or homegrown lunatic? D...

Yes, yes, quite right.

Still, we must soldier on.

Melodica. That one of those tube contraptions with the piano keys? Blow in one end, sound comes out the other?

Here: http://www.thelongwinters.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=94 I tried to edit a message in a topic I started with a poll, and (as far as I can tell) the poll disappeared. So I put the questions back in (to the best of my recollection). And now, they're all duplicates. So there's some sort of problem ...

The 1740s? Dreadful time, dreadful. All those difficulties with the French, English and Indians in Canada - King George's War, what? The Jacobite rebellions in Scotland. Alexander Pope dies, Vivaldi dies, Jonathan Swift dies. And who takes their place? Posh twits and nebbishes. Nothing decent for an...

straw poll: the best noisemaker....

If you please, tell the world what the very best way is to make the very best noises. Please include modifications and specifications, like: Fender Telecaster Squire Custom with rusted strings and at least three inches of stickers, running through an analog delay pedal and a tube amp. Or, at least, ...

A club? Had no idea!

Exclusive, is it? How's one apply for membership? I love brandy - just a wee dram, around four o'clock, at the club. Oh, those were indeed the days....

So, pending membership and all that folderol, who's for a brandy?

Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man...

All right, then.

This business here, with the "Carry On My Wayward Son" re-envisioning. What's all this about?

Some sort of machine-oriented Scandinavian performance, then?

I've only heard the four tracks on that site Merlin referred me to, but I'll say that the "(It's about ti-hiiiime) I'm just saying - I'm just saying..." portion of Blue Diamonds has temporarily forced the five second loop of Dub Narcotic Sound System's "Hand clappin'! This Vanderslice fella... an Esquimaux, then?

Name like that sounds more like one of those fellows with... you know, the cheese and tulips. Windmills all over the place. Trouble holding onto New York. Dutchies! Yes, that's it.

He's a Dutch Esquimaux?

Personal desire: think a DIY/How to make the rock forum would work?

Y'know, musical nerdstuff?

That might be better subsumed into one of the existing categories... presuming anyone would even be interested in discussing nuts-and-bolts stuff.

Just so's you know, if you try to post something without logging in first, you don't get a "please won't you login or register" page, you get some wacky-assed thing with SQL and "debug codes" and stuff in it.

Which is a little off-putting.
