New Song lyrics

Post by Unremarkable »

ok, here is my attempt at lyrics for two of TLW new songs:

Fire Island

Here's how I found out:
A man called my house
He asked me what I knew
They found my letter
And I don't have to wonder
Did it reach you?
No, I don't have to wonder
Did it reach you?
No, I don't have to wonder
Did it reach you?
Did it reach you?
Good morning fire island
I'm not sure who to ask
They said wait until tomorrow
They found my letter

*chorus*

Cinders in the garden
From the cars parked on the lawn
(that tracking of the garden)
They found my letter

*chorus*

Good morning fire island
Good morning fire island
Good morning fire island
They found my letter

Ultimatum

Student, why do you dream of me?
When you dream of your acre of trees
It was agreed, I came to burn leaves
It's all I ever claim to do
A plow man I'll never grow into
My arms miss you, my hands miss you
Stars sing, I've got their song in my head
In the broad light of day
Your claws are snagged on my face
Say it
I wish we were naked
And I wish that I could take it
And you turn on me
My arms miss you, my hands miss you
Stars sing, I've got their song in my head
I don't want my words twisted
I don't want you to listen too closely
Or wait for me impatiently
And I hope I can keep seeing you
As long as you don't say
I'll falling in love
Crave translates into slave
no one can harness the rain
I can make myself into rain
You'll feel me on your cheek and on your sleeve
My arms miss you, my hands miss you
Stars sing, I've got their song in my head
I don't want my words twisted
I don't want you to listen too closely
Or wait for me impatiently
And I hope I can keep seeing you
As long as you don't say
I'll falling in love
But I can feel you're about to forget
Yes, I can feel you're about to forget

Fire Island is a "super-sad song", and my current fav of the new ones. Ultimatum is "a little song about believing in love".

Oh, how I love those Long Winters.

The first part about students and plowing and
burning leaves makes me think about how J.Ro
spent the summer reading Martin Luther.

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster.

Have you guys heard these songs already? This is the first I've even heard of them, infact, I'm still waiting to hear "christmas with you is best". Is there some place I can hear them, or are you all privy to some secret LW catalogue?

actually, these songs were performed by "the Short Winters".

(bad, bad attempt at a joke by my dad this morning when i told him that the songs i was listening to were performed by two members of the long winters.)

The last two CDs were named for song lyrics. Presupposing the next one will be too, what should it be called?

My vote is "Cinders in the Garden".

Ahh, I heard that too.

And I like that better. I wonder what the cover art will be like? We've had two very different covers so far...

Being not only lyrics, but entire lines of a song TWYCDIH and WIPTF have a nice rythem to them. By that standard "Through with Love" or "Cinders in the Garden" seem too short (even though they may very well be entire lines themselves, I'm avoiding reading the new lyrics until I actually hear the songs, it's like spoiling the end of a movie). So as I've only yet heard "The Commander Thinks Aloud" (Future Mix) and assuming a version of that song will appear on the new album, I propose "From Here I Can Touch The Sun".

I'm so with you on that one!

I agree that longer lines make great titles and I totally second Chelsea's yay on your title suggestion.

In further unanimousness (unanimosity?): as for cover art, I'm curious about that too. In fact I've been wondering whether to use the WIPTF cover art as a guideline for the colours on my concert list webpages or not... oh well, the good thing about stylesheets is that it can be changed easily.

Well, The Showbox's website says "THE LONG WINTERS" (yes, all in caps) will be playing the Green Room.

Apparently fortune has smiled on me, and it looks like I may be able to go to this. kickass.

and this is the news from the source: the KEXP website

so if they will play any new stuff, it will be audible for us all on Audioasis. Hurray!
and you go support KEXP on the spot, Un, and give us an eyewitness report of what we couldn't hear

It's just me at that show. If anyone has seen this "Long Winters" please let me know. They seem to have been misplaced.

I saw the "Long Winters" hitching their way to Tacoma.

Now, you know what they say about Tacoma...
