now, see this is what i love about this board. a thread that began with the topic of song lyrics has progressed into a discussion about the aroma of tacoma. classic.

i grew up in tacoma, and let me tell you people...it doesn't SMELL. there is an odor at times (from the paper mill, yes) that can be smelled from the freeway and some parts of downtown, but it does not permeate the whole town by any means. tacoma is a lovely city...there's puget sound, the glass bridge, the history museum....help me out jace...

From what I know, legislation was put underway to curtail the aroma. What used to be a common stench (it smelled like farts) now is very rare one.

I've lived there for four years. I work in Seattle. I see both cities every day. I love both cities in different ways, just like with my ex-girlfriends.

But Tacoma doesn't have the annoying internal traffic congestion that Seattle does. But Seattle has better nightlife. Both have some great cultural things going on. Seattle, because of its size, has more cultural stuff going on. But Seattle also has more malls.

Tacoma people are more "down to earth," I think. Whatever that means. Both cities have their dickheads though.

Tacoma has a light rail. Tacoma's downtown is remarkably better than 4 years ago, and it will only continue to be revitalized in the upcoming years.

Rent is cheaper in Tacoma.

But Tacoma’s music scene consists of a lot of old timers in blues bands and gore metal high school kids. (That’s lame.)

Tacoma has a better view of Rainier. And I feel like I’m more able to quickly leave the city than if I were in Seattle.

The Narrows Bridge beats the 520 and I-5 bridges any day.

Also, part of Tacoma is a peninsula. How cool is that?

i have been to the "nice" part of tacoma and it is cute and quaint. infact i remember thinking that it would be a great place to explore.

great, another bit of State of Washington geography explained to us outsiders.
just today did I notice the line 'between the Cascades and Puget Sound' in a Postal Service song, which fits in nicely.

(see how I quite smoothly steer this topic back to music and away from wampus-style territorial bickering, oh boy, how smooth)

Jesus, you Tacoma kids are sensitive about the whole "it's the place where you go to die" and the smell thing. It is just a fact of life. You don't personally smell, so everything is a-ok. right? right?
