Peter Buck

Post by anthropomorphizing_kitty »

I just saw that Peter Buck plays mandolin on Cinnamon. Has that guy played with every band that's ever existed? How did you guys meet up with him anyway? Does this mean your on your way to duets with Michael Stipe and by extension, Thom Yorke?

Just a quick guess... Peter lives in Seattle. He's in the Minus 5, and the rest of the Minus 5 feature in various places on the album as well. AND the Posies are there, too. It's chock full of Seattle people.

One time I was driving up 15th in Capitol Hill and I saw Peter Buck on the sidewalk. It was rad. Kind of like this time that I was in the parking lot by the U District Bank Of America and I was Sean Nelson getting into his car. However, that wasn't quite as rad.

You know, Ken Stringfellow co-produced the new record, and he's in REM. So it's not like they got David Bowie or anything.

esatnik--

What would have made the experience more "rad" for you? I'm sure Sean would love to hear some feedback on his overall Radness Fulfillment Factor (RFF.)

Some mundane pointless trivia about some Seattle-related musicians... (WARNING: This is going to be really pointless!)

- Jon Auer, Ken Stringfellow, Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey hav obviously been involved in the making of WIPTF
- Ken toured with LW last year
- Ken and Jon Auer => The Posies
- Mike Mills has attended the Ken/LW shows last year in Atlanta and Athens GA
- Peter, Ken and Scott are all members of the Minus 5
- Bill Rieflin, Minus 5 drummer, is REM's session drummer for the upcoming tour&album.
- Scott is also in the Young Fresh Fellows
- Mike Mills (REM bassguy) has played with the YFF and Minus 5 on some occasions
- In a song on the latest YFF album the lyrics mention the Presidents of the USA (and SuperDeluxe)
- The Presidents of the USA played with LW at Snoqualmie
- Scott has played with REM since 1995 and played on their last 3 records
- Scott introduced Peter Buck to his future wife (who owns the Croc) and Ken Stringfellow
- Ken Stringfellow has been playing with REM since 1998 and played on their last album
- Scott and Peter and Barrett Martin are members of Tuatara.
- Barrett Martin played on REM's 1998 album "Up".
- Ken Stringfellow's last album "Touched" was produced by Mitch Easter, who also produced/engineered the first 2 REM albums
- Ken plays bass for Big Star
- REM have recently covered a Big Star song
- Mike Mills and Peter both appear on Christy McWilson's first album. She is Scott's wife.
- Line up at a benefit for the Washington Wilderness Coalition at the Crocodile Cafe, April 2000: Christy McWilson, Ken Stringfellow, John&Sean, The Minus 5

Did I miss something?

Very impressive. Not to detract from your deductive brilliance, but can the list be pared down to a mere six degrees, rather than the eight you have listed here?

OK, after doing some actual research on my lambasting, apparently both Tim and Tom Robbins were in 1 Giant Leap.

I honestly don't remember seeing Tim in it though, but if IMDB says he was in it, then he was in it.

Sorry about that! Next time I'll be sure to fact check before shooting anybody down.

i am in the minus five, however infrequently. (we're working our way through paul mccartney's solo catalogue, with a special emphasis on "ram.")
john also performed with the M5 one time, playing acoustic guitar on "dead flowers" (sung drunkenly by me) after we opened for them one time.
i have also co-written songs with mr. buck.
i have never met kevin bacon, but i do like bacon.

another kevin bacon lineage:

bacon + meryl streep in "the river wild."
streep + charlie kaufman/spike jonze in "adaptation."
kaufman/jonze + stipe in "being john malkovich."

dude.

Wait wait wait... Tom Robbins the author? Tom Robbins, the author of such literary masterpieces as Still Life With Woodpecker and Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates?

...Fascinating.

also, GLP played with Robyn Hitchcock;
ken, mike, scott and peter played with robyn hitchcock....
