Long Winters EP To Be Released In The Fall

Post by Unremarkable »

Taken from the Barsuk newsletter:

"The Long Winters have been working hard on their next record, the follow-up to 2003's when I pretend to fall, which should be ready for an early 2006 release. In the meantime, we have an EP coming out sometime this fall (details will be posted to the website soon), and the band will be playing some dates with Keane in September."

Yay! Just the thing I needed to tide me over. :)

Now, let the speculation begin! What will be on this EP? Preview tracks? A single from the upcoming album, and b-sides? Live tracks? Fantastic, other-worldly, indie-pop-rock? Acoustic ballads with a chorus of nothing but a humming and whistling melody line?

I'm guessing some sort of Monster Ballads, you know, cuz every bad boy has a soft side.

although it's being kept hush hush, i do have some details.

tracks 1-4 will be live excerpts from john's stand up comedy, including the underground sensation "trucker hats."

the last track will be a blues jam in c minor. i believe this track is 7 seconds long.

Wait, is this for wishes or predictions?

c'mon, that must be wishful thinking; it takes longer than 7 seconds to even get started on an unfinished blues jam. I know it's a sore point with former Long Winters members, I imagine Sean still wakes up in a sweat sometimes with a vague memory of a nightmarish hours long jazz impro.

Anyway, this is great news after being away on holiday for a while. I'm glad it was posted here, because I seem not to get the Barsuk newsletter anymore (unless it is disguised as a sex enhancement spam message, of which there were plenty on my return).

Anyway, I'm all in favour of this whole ep business, obviously, as long as it's not a cheap ploy to then move back the release date of the album.
