Long Winters on They Might Be Giants tribute

Postby misterarcola » Mon Sep 12, 2005 9:55 am

So, there's been alot of talk lately about a They Might Be Giants tribute album, and the label responsable has a page up on Myspace.com. Word on the street is The Long Winters are one of the bands on it... along with Frank Black, and the Wrens!

This sounds pretty damn cool if ya ask me.

"Pet Name" it is, from Factory Showroom and also the CDx2 best-of, which is called Dial-A-Song, though it features -- correct me if I'm wrong -- precisely ZERO dial-a-songs. Trés underrated choon, anyway, esp. TMBG-wise.

Lyrics, info & d/l.

okay, officially frustrated

it's 3:40 am, and I've searched for this on myspace and couldn't find it. I did find a band called White Lace, which has a band member called John Roderick. Don't go there, would be my advice, it didn't do much to enhance my mood

so misterarcola, could you purlease point us in the right direction, the little info you've given is just not enough to actually find this, or not at this time of night.

ps i'm still up because I saw south san gabriel, and I am still psyched

I just DL'd it off of iTunes.

Great covers sound as if the covering band could have had that song in their own catalog; in this way I think this is a great cover.

Jogging tamborine, jangly guitar, head-boppy bass lines, soaring harmonies that invite singing along...had this been a TLW song, it could have been on WIPTF or PTDTB.

Good stuff.

So, i picked this up yesterday at my local CD shop. I dunno much about no They Might Be Giants and all, so it's doubtful that i can fully appriciate this album. But, i'll say this. There are a lot of really catchy songs on here. The Long Winters tack is completely rockin'- i love it. I'd never heard Self before, and they're great too! The Wrens' song "they'll Need A Crane is really intense, in a really sad way. I'm probably not describing it well. And i really like Hotel Lights too, also on the sadder side- but really pretty.

I'm all over it. "Lincoln" is one of my all-timers.
