New Years Eve at the Tractor Tavern

Postby Unremarkable » Sun Jan 01, 2006 2:07 pm

It was a great show, I can't think of a much better way to ring in the New Year. The Long Winters went on just after midnight and put on an awesome show. The setlist, for those interested:

New Girl
Shapes
Carparts
Pushover
Sound of Coming Down
Delicate Hands
Blue Diamonds
Cinnamon
Scared Straight
Fire Island
The Commander Thinks Aloud
In the Light [Led Zeppelin] (this cover was not complete, more of a tease really)
Ultimatum (ROCK version, waayyy different from EP version)
Stupid (with Sean Nelson on backing vocals)
Scent of Lime (with Sean Nelson on backing vocals)
Medicine Cabinet Pirate (with Sean Nelson on backing vocals and keys)

It was really great to hear Sean's voice on some of those songs again, especially on Medicine Cabinet Pirate. The rock version of Ultimatum was interesting, but weird because I was not used to hearing the song like that. I think I like the EP version better.

ROCK version of ULTIMATUM?!?!?!? *pout*

BTW, my copy of the EP was stolen this morning, along with some other great CDs, my boyfriend's Discman, my d.l., and my taxi permit.
*mega-pout*

yeah, the rock version of "ultimatum" was pretty, well, rockin'. i liked it a lot, though my favorite version of the song remains the acoustic one.

i love the rock version of "fire island" they've been doing live, also. other highlights were "stupid" with sean on vocals (it seemed like it'd been a long time since they did this live) and "the commander thinks aloud." it seemed especially grand last night.

i think the rock and roll take on ultimatum is just about the greatest thing i've ever heard. but i am a notorious sucker for rock and roll.

and wow do i miss the sean/john banter:

john: we only have one more song. and that would make fifteen songs we've played for you tonite, and that's not including the zeppelin cover.
sean: that's free. zeppelin covers are free.
john: zeppelins covers are free.
john: also you know blues jams are also free.
sean: blues jams are NEVER free.

Big Up 's to The Village Green ! Those guys are great man !

Highlights for me on this New Years Eve... ( & 10th LW's show )
well that would have to be "Pushover" & rockin to "Ultimatum"
who woulda thunk it ?? (great hesitations and timing signatures
on this one )

and " In the Light " when JRod mumbles something about
"some Robert Plant bullshit .. blah .. blah .. " while wearing
a pink towel over his head , I've been trying to convince my
wife that those are the original lyrics ,, she don't buy it

and to all the El Dub loyals , good to see you and
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

Waaaaaaaaaaah!!! I want some rockin' Ultimatum! Waaaaaaaaaaaah!!!

On a happier note, I just got my EP back, along with everything else but the Discman (understandable) and my permit. (WTF?!?)

Now, back to whining...waaaaah...so jealous...

well, if I ever get a taxi in AZ, I will check if your name is on the license. Glad you got the ep back though!

so, it seems that new album may indeed be a rock album - but geez, Led Zep... I think it's a good thing that they couldn't play it all the way!

Was anyone there taping this show?

I was to get a soundboard feed of it, but another taper was there with her DAT recorder and got 'dibs' before me. She assured me that I could get a copy when she had processed it.

She just got back to me and told me that she had technical problems rendering her copy blank.

I saw a few mic stands in the audience. If anyone knows how I could track a good audio source down for integration into a *very important TLW-related project* I would be most appreciative, and credit will be given to those involved.

Thanks.

I did, though I'm not sure if the quality of my rudimentary minidisc + mic setup would be useful to the "very important TLW related project." Email me if you're interested.

i taped the show, CSB>HI-MD Uncompressed 44.1 PCM, and it sounds pretty good. i'm in the middle of moving right now though. currently in Virginia Beach VA visiting friends. next week i'll be in Northampton MA and hopefully have a place to call my own, at which point i can make copies for folks who might be interested.

peter

also, anyone know what the deal was with those signs outside of the tractor alerting us that by entering we agree to be filmed? is that was this Very-Important-TLW-Related-Project is about?
