"In fact, we're not even playing the Barsuk showcase. We're only playing three shows and all of them are free, outdoor parties."

I'm sure your intentions are good, but it's impolite to post email in a public forum, dontcha think?

Oh, I would have posted something similar after awhile anyway, once I got over my terrible phobia of the internet.

We're only playing free, outdoor parties at SXSW this year. No badges or wristbands or money required. My only stipulation was that there be plenty of BBQ, which there will be.

Three free shows, AND BBQ? Hmmmm...I wonder what the cost of a plane ticket to TX would be...

Well, I didn't post the entire thing... just the bit that would be useful to people here. AND THIS IS THE THANKS I GET!

Besides, it didn't seem like classified information. John has since confirmed that impression.

I'm sorry, John, if you wanted to keep this under wraps for a while longer. Just trying to be a good Samaritan.

I can't enter because California is void (WTF???), but

Free trip + hotel + BADGES from sparks. How awesome would that be?
(I loathe sparks but not their ability to send someone to Austin)

Also, people had better get ready to attend sxsw 2007, aka the year I return to Austin for grad school part II. John, I am counting on you to get juice-drunk and play at my party.

Although I think I would go completely crazy with all the options and therefore feel relieved that I'm unable to go, I do love all the stuff around it. Like this blog called See You In The Pit, which features only artists that will play at SXSW. The Long Winters piece is a well-written one, and I can't wait to delve in further.

Egads, Liesbeth, great catch. There's a sxsw band page on myspace, too, but this is better. Thanks.

I absolutely cannot make it to the BBQ on the 17th. Man, it would be nice to know when the other two LW performances were happening.

Actually, the part I find hilarious is at the end:

9. GOVERNING LAW: The Sweepstakes and Contest and these Official Rules are governed and to be construed under the laws of the State of California.

I am willing to subject myself to endless spam to go to this thing; I must be desperate. Turns out it's the 16th I'll be shooting for; here's hoping to make it and maybe even catch a little LW action along the way!

if the internet doesn't lie, there will be a Long Winters performance at a Barsuk showcase after all

besides the SXEast bbq mentioned earlier, The Long Winters are listed for the same day, Thu 16 at The Parish for the Barsuk/Saddle Creek showcase, right after Smoosh, and for 18 March at the Barsuk/Arts & Crafts day party at Pok-E-Joes. Which is a barbecue restaurant, if I remember correctly from last year. Reading about it, that is.

The Poke-e Joe's party is listed as free a few places on the web... but I want to make sure SXSW wristbands etc. are not required before I make the drive. I called the venue itself, & they seemed to think it was completely free... but they weren't 100% on that. Hmmm....

That gig is definitely free (anything during the day is pretty much guaranteed free)...

The Long Winters are not playing the Barsuk showcase at the Parish.

Pok-E-Joes is a BBQ restaurant...there is a large open field near the restaurant with picnic tables and such...
