I hope they don't sell out fast. I have no money left. :(

the box set is in the shop now: http://www.barsuk.com/shop/thelongwinters

they brought 10 copies of each record to Europe, although not the box itself, and some were sold yesterday on the first show - my guess is they might sell pretty fast.

They also have the equivalent CD box set up: http://www.barsuk.com/shop/pkg46

(...of course, it's without a box.)

And only $35.00! I wish I had friends that didn't already own all of their CDs. But, alas.

WHOA. That's like, a free Ultimatum disc. Not bad.

EDIT: Now, do I get the Long Winters vinyl box set of albums I already have, or the John Vanderslice holiday collection of albums I don't?

And, of course (since it's Barsuk), shipping is free after $30.00... so you save even more!

That's why I always don't buy anything until I'm spending over $30. Shipping to Canada is almost the price of a whole other CD! ;)

Uh-huh. It costs us $12.40 to ship that vinyl box to Canada, and we're gladly eating that cost just for you.

Yeah, now I just have to get to the point where I have enough expendable cash that forking over $80+ is a feasible option. :(

I always do exactly the same thing, and feel rather guilty about it (usually) because I feel like all the free shipping is starting to add up, but I probably own better than 1/2 the Barsuk catalog at this point, so I guess I'm pitching in...anyway, I'm cheaper than you crazy Canadians (except when people fail to realize New Mexico isn't in fact part of old Mexico...).

In fact, it might just be time for another order...I've been slacking on the HD ep/single and that vinyl looks damn good, even if I don't have a turntable :)

How about YOU buy it, dear New Girl, and then bring it up to Canada, and we'll listen to it together on my turntable?

I don't want to make things really hard for you poor people, but this morning I had a chance to listen to the demos on the Ultimatum record, and it was really, really interesting. I don't think I've ever heard a Long Winters demo before, although I suppose in a way early live versions have something of the same feel. But then this is with alternative arrangements. It's like a peek in the kitchen.

With the other records, I just gaze at the artwork. I'm drooling again. I'm so glad I got to spend my pay of my first two days at a new job on something so decadently wonderful.

Forrest, darling, should I be terribly worried if I can't pick this up for a little bit ? Meaning, do you have a super small amount in stock and it will SELL SELL SELL (out) and then I will cry cry cry (a lot)?

so to you who work at barsuk, i have a question. are you even breaking even on these things?

cause i bought ultimatum and the 1st album. $15 each for $30 subtotal. but i used the 15% off thing, knocking off $4.50. free shipping cost you $6.05. a free copy of the treats cd couldn't have been cheaper to manufacture than $2, could it? and the big sturdy lp-sized cardboard box maybe ran fifty cents.

so, after the above costs, that leaves only $16.95 for barsuk. with which to pay for the lps themselves and royalties to the band and the labor to pack them up in the box with free stickers. and these don't exactly look/feel like cheap pressings.

cause now i'm starting to feel a little guilty for always using the 15% thing.

I remember a couple of bands telling me that vinyl is crazy-cheap to press -- much less than cds, even. But it's not done frequently because they don't sell in terribly large quantities.

That being said, I don't work for Barsuk and I'm not really qualified to be responding to this message.

Yeah, I was going to use it (the 15% off) on my last big purchase ($100.00), but I was already getting a LOT (and a LOT off the regular price) so I just decided to give them my extra $15.00 or so. Hell, I don't have extra money floating around (like, at all), but there are a lot worse places that money could go than to support my favorite independent record label and some of my favorite bands.

But, that's me. I don't think you should feel guilty for saving money. Even if they make only marginal profits, they're still spreading the music, right? And that's got to be worth something.
