Cover of Carparts

Post by matthewsturm »

Hi,

I'm not new here. I just haven't been around for a while. I didn't see anywhere that doing this was frowned upon, so if it is, I apologize in advance.

I added a video to YouTube of me covering "Carparts". I love The Long Winters. A lot. I hope you enjoy my pseudo-rendition of it. Thanks.

Good job, Matthew! Looks and sounds fantastic. Way to rock those harmony vocals, too. Really filled out the cover!

You have def brought "the rock"...
Now please do a cover of "New Girl", and a "Freebird/Barracuda/Highway To Hell" medley...

I concur with both posts above.
If anyone would frown upon this, they should have their heads examined!

You know, I normally avoid the whole "hey, look at me covering this song!" threads like the plague because they always end up being very very bad.

For some reason I looked at this one, and I have to say you did an awesome job sir! I can confirm this video contains no plague!

Seriously, thanks everyone. I can't thank you enough. I'm sure TLW means as much to me as it does to you. My covering this song (as well as others when I play live) is just a tribute to a band that has brought me so much. I'm really glad it's gotten a positive response. My biggest fear was that everyone would have been all, "you shouldn't do that" and "John does it better" and all that jazz. Of course they do it better. I consider what I do just spreading the gospel. :) Again, thanks for the words of encouragement. I'll add another soon. And I really want to take this TLH cover project off the ground. I think it can be a great thing. I've already sold 5 Josh Rouse albums by covering his stuff. Who knows. Maybe I can double it for The Long Winters.

I'm not sure that I actually do it better.

Yeah, I was really thinking you should not be doing this, but I was wrong. This is great.

Oh yeah, on the same youtube page is a version of the Western States Hurricanes doing this same song. That singer is such a dork!
