Nada Surf - Friday
Great show! Where were TLW faithful? Nobody around me understood who "that John guy" was. Commander was saweeet!
Nada Surf played The Commander Thinks Aloud, with Matthew on lead vocals and electric guitar, and John on harmony vocals and acoustic guitar.
It was interesting to hear John sing harmonies, and when they turned up his mic he sounded strong and clear - as he has for the last several shows. When the band decides to tour again I really think people will notice a difference.
Also making an appearance was John's rad tan corduroy blazer.
It was a really good take on Commander, and so different given there were 6 band members on stage playing parts for it (including cello). When I interviewed Matthew Caws for the documentary (a few years ago now), he said it was one of the best songs he's ever heard in his life. I know it's a special song to John, and it was a cool moment to hear it interpreted by someone who appreciates it as much as Matthew does.

NatureBoy is right on. I cautioned my pals that Roderick may appear Thursday but no dice.
John, if you're reading, I tried to buy you a shot of your favorite rye after your cameo but the large bouncer wouldn't allow the invitation. Thanks for the heartfelt white boy high-five/handshake on your exit.

no kidding. there's nothing greater than the smoking ban applying to everyone but daniel.El Duderino wrote:The best part of the show was Lorca's rock star stance complete with omnipresent cigarette and magnificently timed plumes of smoke. Somehow, he pulled it off.... barely. I have to believe that Matthew chuckles at him under his breath.
awesome shows both nights, including the "commander" cover last night. john's in long hair and mutton chops mode these days.

I took some video of Nada Surf covering "Commander" though I apologize that the quality is poor and I did not record long to hear John on vocals, but his vocals were amazing and hearing them just made me hunger for a TLW show, despite how wonderful Nada Surf was.

I'll be there. I really wish your first Nada Surf experience wasn't at the UGHpra House. I hate that venue with a passion. In fact, I'm traveling to Montreal the next day to see them at a venue that's half-decent.kyle_s9 wrote:i'll see you at the opera house probably?
that'll be my first nada surf concert!

Maybe is the key word, I think. :)
We haven't received much news this way in terms of a new album, excepting a brief mention of John recording demos of new songs in one of his Seattle Weekly blogs. If anyone knows anything I don't, by all means, let me know!
And that video is awesome. Matthew actually does a surprisingly fantastic version of the song -- I was surprised to find it suited his voice so nicely!
