News About Nabil

Postby pahouk » Tue Aug 26, 2008 8:08 pm

Just read at the Seattle Weekly that Nabil is leaving Seattle:

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Well, congrats Nabil, may married life treat you well.

Anyway, fret not good people, the 2008 bio on the Barsuk press page tells us the following:

By design, the original touring band featured a rotating line-up of friends and guest stars, at times including Sean Nelson, Ken Stringfellow (the Posies), Michael Schorr (Death Cab), and many others, but since the 2006 release, Putting the Days to Bed, the line-up has solidified around bassist Eric Corson, drummer Nabil Ayers and keyboardist/guitarist Jonathan Rothman. Both Ayers and Rothman live part time in New York City and return to Seattle to rehearse and record with the band.

Interestingly, the bio also says this, which I think might actually be the first time I see an official mention about the origin of the bandname:

Formed by guitarist John Roderick in 2001, the band was named by an offhand comment from Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie) in reference to Roderick's years growing up in Alaska.

he's still in the band....

and he's moving into my neighborhood!

i talked to john about this, rothman is in NY too, he said really the only thing it will effect is...having more east coast dates, since they'll have a place to keep gear and whatever here.

im all for this.

now if john would just sell the farm........

i would like to add a hearty "neat-o!" with regards to the prospect of more east coast dates. how 'bout like, this weekend, fellas? or maybe a stopover before heading to europe in the fall?

Hmmm, but what about the article in Paste* that begins with a book quote that also mentions a long winter?

Actually, for as long as I can remember, New York has been moving to me.

I'm not making that up. It's a thing down here in peninsular America. The sixth borough.

Totally stood next to Nabil at the A.C. Newman show tonight. I was too shy to say anything, but you know...

We're neighbors these days, it appears.

This was his first (in 4 1/2 years, he said, but I'm not sure that's true because I think I've seen him in that time.) He has a new album coming out shortly and probably will do some touring around it.

But, yeah. Awesome.
