Sept. 18, 2009 - Berbati's Pan - MusicFest Northwest - Portland, OR

Rich Wife
Fire Island
Stupid
Teaspoon
Scared Straight
Cinnamon
New Girl
Commander
Blue Diamonds
Hindsight
Pushover
Deprture

Encore:
Nora

Featuring the newest Long Winter, Darius Minwalla, formerly of The Posies. He's a great fit with the band. His style has little bit more edge then Nabil's, he seems to push the tempos of the songs a little bit more. Look forward to hearing more from this lineup, very rockin'.

For those playing at home, that's pronounced duh-RYE-us. ...totally different than the guy from Hootie and the Blowfish.

It's true: OUR Darius plays the drums.

Also: look who didn't play "Honest" this time, kids!

Slick choice, since Darius already filled in as drummer in 2004, this means that the total number of LW band members doesn't go up. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him play with The Long Winters, it's been quite a while since I've seen him tour with The Posies. In fact, that was longer ago than seeing the LW, and that's been quite a while. Yes, I think it's about time for blatant requests for overseas touring.

By the way, this setlist is even closer to being my perfect setlist than the bumbershoot one. Still a few gems missing, but since they don't seem to do two hours shows anymore...

Hi, I posted here a couple of times a few years back and then sorta disappeared, but I saw the show at Berbati's and felt rejuvenated, I suppose. I've only had the opportunity to see John + crew twice now, once waaay back when they opened for the Decemberists and now this show, so you can imagine how ridiculously excited I was to get to see them. Fantastic show, though I was really taken aback at how few people were at the venue. I mean, it was full, but not packed. Anyway, blah blah, awesome show, nice to see you all again, after all this time, and I hope to continue posting here! :D

they may have felt that 'not moving to Portland' wasn't a message that would go down too well down there... writing a column about Seattle vs Portland is not the same as speaking (singing) your mind in front of a crowd - Portland is notoriously gritty and hardcore, isn't it?

that, or perhaps they didn't know how to make sure no one would post a clip of it, since politely asking not to sure didn't work last time.
