"Not Moving To Portland" lyrics

Post by sour29 »

you start in a basement apartment
searching for the upstairs key ring
though you say you've got a plan to go
the way you're holding me, i don't feel you moving
you got to follow your feelings
you should know i don't want to leave just to go
i'm not trying to be hard to reach
but i've put away my only suitcase

and i said, "hey, so you play too rough"
but i went down and i waited
to say, "so, you play too rough"

so you sing it the way you want to hear it sung
you grab your telephone a minute before it's rung
and you call out into space saying
"do you ever want to run?"
well, i want to run and i want you to come
just as you first came to me
wearing only perfume and a coat
and too, too much to drink

and i said "hey, so you play too rough"
but i went down and i waited
to say, "so, you play too rough"

now hope holds down me by the throat
and all your bicycles are dreaming of their brakes
but my dreams have all been of fate
don't say don't

"hey, so you play too rough"
but i went down and i waited
to say "so, you play too rough"
i went down and i waited
to say "so"

i want to run and i want you to come
just as you first came to me
wearing only perfume and a coat
and too, too much to drink

I'm fairly certain these are accurate, but there may be a few words off the in bicycles dreaming of brakes stanza. Hope it's ok I'm posting these...

The first verse I'm still working on, so maybe it won't stay that way, and a few of the words in the second and last verse are misheard, but most importantly the chorus is:

Hey, so, you play too rough
But I wimped out
And I waited to say so
You play too rough

Ah! That makes more sense, I suppose! Thanks for the correction. Good song, sir. I look forward to hearing some more.

Here's an updated attempt, based on the lyrics performed on the Give Seattle video and John's corrections!

Based only on the Give Seattle Video, I offer the following corrections the lyrics posted by Sour29

"hey, so you play too rough"
but i wimped out and i waited
to say "so, you play too rough"
but i wimped out and i waited
to say so

so I want you just as you first came to me
wearing only perfume and a coat
and too, too much to drink

This is merely a correction of the last two sections.

Thanks. I sort of stopped paying attention by that last stanza.
