Menomena?

Postby grant » Fri Dec 11, 2009 2:00 pm

I just noticed on the links page (it's new! go look!) that there's a link to Menomena.

Is there a connection between that band and this of which I'm unaware, or is it simply a mark of appreciation?

I was wondering the same about the link to Sunny Day Real Estate.

The Long Winters toured with Menomena and What Made Milwaukee Famous in 2007. Don't know about Sunny Day Real Estate, though.

Menomena are our friends, former tourmates, and labelmates, and Justin has me stay at his house when I'm in Portland. He brought his mom to my book event and himself wore a tie. So there's that. Sunny Day Real Estate, on the other hand, are a band Eric likes.

let me add, that tour w/ menomena and WMMF (abbrev.!) was stellar.

menomena became a fav. right after, and did my eardrums no favors with that drums-in-the-front stage layout!

Speaking of which, Brent Knopf's side project Ramona Falls is also well worth checking out. He played a fantastic show in Vienna, with a South African band who was pretty uch as great. Wonderful show.

Can I second Ramona Falls? Best show I saw all year was Brent at The Garage in London (Dear Reader were the South Africans). Also, best video EVER for the "I Say Fever" video. and "Intuit" is one of the best albums this year too.

I can't believe I forgot to mention their name! I bought their album on the spot.
And yes, the "I Say Fever"-video is brilliant.

Yeah, I love the animal-head gun.

I sort of discovered the band (as I tend to do now) backwards, in this case by remixing a remix a friend had done with Danny Seim. (It wasn't really a "re"mix, since the track was a new song - more of a mix. A collaboration.) Hasn't been released yet. If anyone else is into the whole remixing thing and want to take a crack at it, I could send you some contact information....

i posted the video on my Facebook profile last month, and I couldn't believe how many people were commenting on how much they enjoyed it. I didn't even know that many people even viewed things I posted. Even more people asked me about it in person. Well done video!

Wow, I had never seen the video, it's great. I miss the days when MTV still was a music station and had their alternative 2 hours on Sunday nights. This deserves to be seen on a bigger screen, and without downloading interruptions...

The Ramona Falls show in Amsterdam was one of the late-night-middle-of-the-week kind, and boy, am I sorry I couldn't go.

My 12 year old has added "I Say Fever" to his Facebook (he lied about his age) and our friends were round today and their 8 year Lyle freaked after watching it, in a good way, and forced his parents to watch it too.

Is there any way to get this to a larger audience?

Have everyone post it to their Facebook profile. Send everyone the YouTube link. Music television's all but dead -- but it's alive and well on these hallowed internets. Make it easy, and they will come! :)

Not quite as fantastic as the music video, but still lovely: I Say Fever and 2 other songs performed in a very acoustic and rather improvised manner in the streets of Vienna.
(they have many other great performances on that site, too)

Funny you should post that. I almost did myself when I stumbled across it while YouTubing John Vanderslice's It'll Be A Breeze recorded by them. Pretty cool video. I like their video concepts.
