Anyone know the story of how it came into existance?

THE LONG WINTERS IS AN INDIE/COUNTRY ROCK BAND FROM SEATTLE. THEIR RECORD LABEL IS BARSUK RECORDS. THEY PRODUCED 4 ALBUMS, AS OF 2006. THEY ARE VERY POPULAR IN THE SEATTLE AREA AND ALSO IN EUROPE. THEY HAVE PLAYED ALL THE LARGER CITIES IN THE USA, AND HAVE BEEN RECEIVED VERY WELL BY ALL. THEY HAVE A WEB-SITE WHERE YOU CAN CHECK THEM OUT, http://www.thelongwinters.com/

This all sounds remotely familiar - wasn't this a Paste promo contest prize?

EDIT: Ugh, redacting my usual humorous inclinations as I just read the posting in full.

I was correct, it was a contest prize, won under sad circumstances.

I've always wondered about who won that guitar, now we know. Strange story.
The nerd in me almost bought the thing on the spot. Also need a new washing machine though. Anyone else have these urges?

@Liesbeth I do indeed have those kinds of urges. I ended up buying that guitar for myself for Christmas (I wasn't in need of a new washing machine). I am actually kinda excited (because I'm a huge nerd).

You should change the title of this thread to "eBay man fails to sell PTDTB guitar".

wonderful, I'm glad the guitar has found a new home with lshibley, I seriously was inclined to bid after it got relisted... but the overseas transport would have been pretty steep, I'm sure. And we already have a bunch of guitars.
Although truth be told: had it been the WIPTF artwork, that thing would have been mine now.

When the When I Pretend to Fall painted Gibson Dusk Tiger comes out, it's going to both blow your minds, and also break your banks. ...Luckily, it has its own banks.

I think everyone loves the WIPTF album art. An ex of mine used that swirly-line-color thing in an art project of hers, it turned out really cool and was hung up in the community art show. I know she gave The Long Winters credit, but I doubt anyone knew/cared. Back to my original point, I'd buy a guitar with that art on it.

I agree -- the When I Pretend To Fall album art / liner notes packaging is phenomenal, and adds a lot of personality to an already great album. I had a FLAC copy of the album before I owned my original (don't yell at me, I was unemployed and at school!), and I will never forget having the chance to bring the album home, sit down and listen to it again for the first time while flipping through the pages and turning through the gatefolds.

I'm not sold on the idea of it on a guitar (the idea of another musician's work on my instrument depresses me, slightly), but I guess I'd have to see how it looks / what kind of guitar it's on before I can outright say I'd never do it. I'd probably prefer it on something other than a Epi Les Paul Special, as those are pretty much the cheapest "brand name" electric guitars on the market. Maybe a nice Rickenbacker -- although we know that will now never happen.
