John Appearing in David Bowie Tribute
John is going to be appearing with the Seattle Rock Orchestra in a David Bowie tribute: http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/reverb/2 ... ays_tr.php. I haven't seen Seattle Rock Orchestra but I've heard they're pretty amazing. Add Bowie glam rock and John and I will definitely be there. Any guesses what song you think John will perform?

Wow. Didn't know JR was even into Bowie. That really ch-ch-ch-changes things.
OK, that was bad. You can take me out back and shoot me now.

Re: John Appearing in David Bowie Tribute
Well, if it was me, I'd do "The Laughing Gnome,"* but it ain't me... so my vote would be for the vastly, tragically undercovered "Rock'n'roll Suicide," the despairing/triumphant conclusion of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. If one wasn't the last act of the night, though, it'd be a dick song to do because there's simply no way to follow it. NO WAY.

my vote would go to Starman, if it wasn't one of those ''it's perfect, don't cover" songs.
100 piece orchestra and choir? so sweet!

I saw their performance of The Arcade Fire's "Funeral" album all the way through, and it was great.
As for John's Bowie song...
What I hope it will be: Young Americans
What I think it will be: Queen Bitch
(I have no inside knowledge of his selection)

Agreed, but that doesn't mean I don't secretly wish it's Starman anyway.Liesbeth wrote:my vote would go to Starman, if it wasn't one of those ''it's perfect, don't cover" songs.

I hadn't realized this show was going to have reserved seating. I just remembered to buy a ticket and ended up with an orchestra pit seat. The good news: I will be close to the stage. The bad news: I won't actually be able to see the stage.
Re: John Appearing in David Bowie Tribute
So...remember when we were talking about ZZ Top covers? I'm having that same annoying thing happen where I wouldn't want to hear something rocking (coz if I did, I'd say Suffragette City or Scary Monsters)...I think I'd want to hear. Uhm. Never Let Me Down.
ps: Grant, as usual, you win. Maybe one day Capn Jack will be in an Ivor Cutler Tribute, no? I live in hope.

So, I think John done gone went and double booked himself. He's also opening for Nada Surf in New York. Maybe if he's really careful with the time zones, he can pull it off.
Re: John Appearing in David Bowie Tribute
Yeah, although the Bowie show announced itself first, I actually said I would play the Nada Surf show before. So I'm not doing the Bowie show, which causes me great sadness. But I am doing the Nada Surf show, which causes me great joy. Joy co-mingled with sadness. For the record, they wanted me to do Starman and I wanted to do Rock and Roll Suicide.

Dar Williams did a good Starman cover.
I... I don't know whether I'm thrilled or crushed! But I can still listen to it in my head.
