Your pick for "the single?"

Postby Merlin » Tue Apr 22, 2003 7:02 pm

[Assuming you've heard some sample tracks from or an advance copy of When I Pretend to Fall...]

If you were the kingmaker in charge of choosing which song from the new record to push to radio and "the kids," which would it be? Why come? Huh? Why? Huh?

Dear god, how am I still typing coherently?

"Cinnamon," because it's so catchy it makes the rhythm section in my bloodline ache, though "Stupid" is basically as deliciously infectious and awe-inspiring.

Man, I remember when I'd already ordered two copies of the first record halfway through "Carparts." Those were the days. ;)

I picked "Stupid," because I think it's the best representation of the whole record overall.

On most days "New Girl" or "Shapes" is my favorite on the record, and I think either would make a great single too.

Gosh, almost all of them would work I guess, but I'm sticking with "Stupid."

I am a huge nerd, and I'm just glad that I can share that with you all.

stupid is so wonderfully good -- when i first heard it, it made me so happy-dancy-shake-my-assy. that is why it should be the single. the end.

single

I think New Girl is the catchiest song by far, so it's probably the most radio friendly. Cinnamon or Stupid would be good choices too.

I agree that New Girl is catchy as hell. I had it on repeat for days when I was first listening to the record. But my vote for first single goes to Cinnamon. It seems to be the song that stands out for most people, even though they invariably get the title wrong. "Oh yeah, I love that 'Her Skin is Cinnamon' song, man."

Jeez, Maddie, I thought you had my back on "Stupid."

You're dead to me now.

Sadly, Meg, that post is all that's keeping the site together at this point.

Pull it away and it all comes tumbling down like rock and roll Jenga™.

I've only heard the four tracks on that site Merlin referred me to, but I'll say that the "(It's about ti-hiiiime) I'm just saying - I'm just saying..." portion of Blue Diamonds has temporarily forced the five second loop of Dub Narcotic Sound System's "Hand clappin'! And clappin'!" out of constant repeat in my head. Which is quite some feat, considering how much them Radio 1190 folks play that damn song.

Maddie, if things don't work out with Merlin, would you be my concubine? The hours are decent, and what the position lacks in pay, it makes up for in novelty. And sunshine, of course.

At this point, "Hand clappin'!" is the one thing that's making me strongly consider a trip to scenic Roxbury, MA for the Dub Narcotic show next week (in an abandoned Whoopie Pie factory -- no lie). That and the thought of Calvin Johnson hitting on me.

Yeah, Calvin Jones once hit on me in an abandoned Whoopie Pie factory but it wasn't so great. His beard was kinda scratchy and... oh, you said Calvin Johnson. Sorry.

I mean, hey, if Death Cab can get one, why not the Long Winters?
