Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
Departing from Ft. Lauderdale?
If you folks have some extra money before heading out, y'all should stop by the Mai Kai and take in a show. A golden example of local (not local) culture. More affordable is Meal In A Pie. You need provisions, don't you? The ultimate portable foodstuffs. They're South African, so you know they're good.
And if you want to say hi, I live about 45 minutes north of there....

Thanks for posting these!
Here are some Cruise pics with John, including a pretty waterfall, a very possessive David Rees, and Wil Wheaton sitting on John's lap, which is a little disconcerting considering John wasn't wearing his Santa costume. What the........?!

This is the same link twice, Broski!pahouk wrote:Scared Straight: http://www.youtube.com/user/ThatGuyBSU# ... 7oTwwg7Q-0

Acoustic Scared Straight is so awesome, though, so it's forgiven.
Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
Thanks, sour. I fixed the link for Stupid. Also if these videos are from someone on the board let me know so I can give you credit. I didn't recognize any of the names on YouTube.sour29 wrote:This is the same link twice, Broski!pahouk wrote:Scared Straight: http://www.youtube.com/user/ThatGuyBSU# ... 7oTwwg7Q-0

That version of Stupid was one of the best versions of one of my favorite songs of all time.
It cured the food poisoning that was going to hit the ship the following night.

Agreed. I love how well these jangly electric pop songs translate to acoustic. I still wish I knew those crazy chords to Stupid, though....

I think learning that song on acoustic is my next goal.

you would have heard it here if one of us had actually been there, don't you think?pahouk wrote: Thanks, sour. I fixed the link for Stupid. Also if these videos are from someone on the board let me know so I can give you credit. I didn't recognize any of the names on YouTube.

Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
I figured it was possible someone was afraid to admit they had gone lest we all destroy him/her with our outpouring of jealousy. In any case it sounds like many people that hadn't heard TLW music before were very impressed so yay for new fans.Liesbeth wrote:you would have heard it here if one of us had actually been there, don't you think?pahouk wrote: Thanks, sour. Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
The advantage of a cruise full of tech-loving people is you get a lot of videos. Here's some footage of the Q&A session (in no particular order):

Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
Hello folks,
I noticed you were collecting video evidence of John's participation on the cruise, and seeing as I'm one of the lucky few who was also on the boat, I know many of the people who did the recording. Just in case you haven't seen it yet, some of the best footage of the Thursday concert is finally being uploaded.
The following videos by Cernoise are taken from a camera on the stage, have great audio and include all the banter between songs.
Introduction of John Roderick
Stupid
Scared Straight
Seven
Hindsight
Honest
Give Me All Your Lovin' (in which John breaks a microphone stand)
Edit to add:
The following are out of focus but still have great audio
Ultimatum
Not Moving To Portland (in which John gets unceremoniously kicked off stage because the show went overtime)
The entire playlist (including the other acts: Stephen Toulouse, David Rees, and Peter Sagal) is now available if you want to see the whole show.

Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
Thanks for the links and welcome to the board. I'm so glad that there's so much great footage for those of us who couldn't go on the cruise.
Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
Thanks for the welcome, pahouk!
Jonathan Coulton fans, being mostly geeks, are a little obsessive about documenting things--especially for the greater good of the fandom. We're even planning a community DVD set of the cruise. I think most footage relating to John is already in the wild, but if I come across anything interesting in compiling the DVD set I'll be sure to let you know.

Hello and welcome!
Those videos ar fantastic! I also watched some of the Q&A, fun stuff. Huge thanks to Cernoise for taping all these shows!
But geez, someone hand the man a tissue to clean his glasses :)
Anyway, i think the cooperation of Joco nerds and TLW nerds could yield some fantastic things.... hmmm.....
