Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
Hi Moni! I'd meant to ask if all that glasses-cleaning was normal; we've been making jokes about everyone bringing lens wipes to future shows.
I hope you got to the part in the Q&A where John talks about the novelty of being unrecognized on the cruise; the "palm to chest" quote is when I knew I was going to like him very much.
JoCo fans are no strangers to collaborations, so if you have any fantastic ideas...

Welcome, Chicazul, and thanks very much for the links!

Well I cannot answer for John of course; I can only say I have seen him clean his glasses with his not-tucked-in-shirt occasionally during/after shows.
And that JoCo birthday video is brilliant. You guys are incredibly creative. Kudos!!

Is that you with the cello? Bluuue.
Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
That is indeed me with the cello. Blue is obviously my signature colour. (:
Another Sea Monkey has posted about her interactions with John on the JoCo Cruise Crazy Fan blog. The whole blog is a compendium of cruise memories by a small group of friends, including the woman who was chosen (by lottery) as our Monarch of the Seas. I'm not sure it has any appeal for people who were not there (and likely have no idea what Sea Monkeys or Monarch of the Seas refer to) but if you want to know what it was like to be there, the first-person reports are still rolling in.
In her post Maria links to Tracy, another contributor to the blog, who wrote this poem about John's performance of The Commander Thinks Aloud--a song the vast majority of us had never heard before. For the record, everyone near me was in tears during that silence before the applause. I wish video could capture for you how magical it was, but Tracy's poem comes close.

Oh, I remember hearing The Commander for the first time, and totally understand what it must have been like for you all. It's an amazing song.

Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
There will be a second JoCo Cruise, February 19-26 2012, and John will be part of the entertainment program again.
This makes me wonder: if The Long Winters would do something like that, would I go? It would be really unique experience, but also a hell of a lot of money, not even counting airfare to Florida....

Florida: It's less dangerous than you think! Mostly.
Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
I briefly thought about going on the cruise but honestly I don't think my nerd quotient is quite high enough. Also I'm a weather wimp and the heat would probably kill me. I could totally get behind a TLW cruise, though. Maybe an Alaskan cruise! John could play tour guide and show us all the places the tourists don't go to. Can we make this happen?

Now that might be interesting! Should I start saving yet?

Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
The heat: Actually, on a boat, the heat ain't that bad - all our breezes come off the ocean here, so if you're already out *on* the ocean, you're more comfortable than all of us on the shore.

Some videos from the second cruise are showing up on YouTube. Here are some I found:

John has been confirmed as a guest on JCCC#3: http://jococruisecrazy.com/2012/12/jccc ... -roderick/.
Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
Some footage from JCCC3 is starting to show up. My nerd quotient is not nearly high enough to fully appreciate this but here's a clip of celebrity gaming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyc75JP3 ... youtu.be&a

Re: John on Jonathan Coulton's Caribbean Cruise
JoCo Cruise report: John debuted a new song on JCCC3. Video isn't up yet but does exist from multiple angles. Song is (probably) called "Same Song".
John was also responsible for making a 14-year-old's week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDm9_zJew9U

I was just going to post this video. What a cool thing for John to do. Really looking forward to hearing the new song.
