TLW to Play City Arts Fest in October 2011

Postby pahouk » Wed Jul 27, 2011 10:42 am

The Long Winters are scheduled to play the City Arts Fest in October: http://www.cityartsfest.com/blog/2011/0 ... ss-release. The exact date and location still appears to be TBD. Passes go on sale 8/5, tickets for specific shows go on sale 8/24.

Edited to add: I should have looked a little closer. The Long Winters are scheduled to play October 20 at the Showbox: http://www.cityartsfest.com/event/2011/ ... te-cataldo.

LIKE.

Old photo, obviously. Anyone want to speculate who's going to be playing with the faithful duo at this show? Anyone want to bet John still doesn't have any clue?

Hey, did they accidentally use an old photo of John for Cataldo? Could be his twin...

The set times for the Long Winters show are now posted: http://www.cityartsfest.com/event/2011/ ... te-cataldo. TLW are scheduled for 11-12:30. I'm glad they got a nice long set. It's been a while since I saw the band.

In addition to the TLW show John will also be appearing at the tribute show for The Replacements the following night: http://www.cityartsfest.com/event/2011/ ... slands-kin. Since The Replacements are one of my favorite bands I'm really looking forward to this show.

A picture of the limited edition show poster as well as photos of some very lucky people who attended a house show with John this weekend: http://www.threeimaginarygirls.com/blog ... -2011-1020. Since Dorsia Films was there I'm hoping some of the footage from the house show will turn up somewhere.

The house show was beautiful. All request, and we even were able to write questions on note cards and drop them in a bowl for John to answer in between songs. There was a potluck beforehand with lots of great food.

I know there was some filming and audio recording going on, I wouldn't be surprised if they turned up somewhere...I can't wait for the show tonight, I only wish it wasn't so late! :)

What a rocking, awesome show! The School of Rock kids BROUGHT IT. They were awesome, it was really fun to see them play. They had a great energy and they looked like they were just having so much fun. Great, rocking show. So fun! It was also great to see Sean Nelson back up there behind the mic as well. He sang backing vocals on every song from Clouds on through the encore.

Set list:

Seven (John solo)
Fire Island, AK
Rick Wife
Blue Diamonds
Pushover
New Girl
Clouds (duo w/Sean)
Shapes (duo w/Sean)
It'll be a Breeze (duo w/Sean)
Cinnamon
Scared Straight
Blues jam/guitar battle/everyone gets a solo!
It's a Departure
Prom Night at Hater High
The Commander Thinks Aloud
Encore:

Only Living Boy in NY (duo w/Sean)

I'm really bad with setlists but I think Stupid was also in there somewhere. Other than that I don't have much to add. The energy and talent of the School of Rock band was mind-boggling. I don't know who suggested having them play with John but what a brilliant idea! Also I'm so happy I finally got to hear It'll be a Breeze, which was on the top of my of songs to try and bribe John to play.

Edited to add: Here's a video of Clouds I found on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQHWCJ2Djms

I forgot to post that John appeared at The Replacements cover show on Friday. He dropped in for a quick version of Waitress in the Sky with some members of The Cops and Kurt Bloch.

Jade, when you gave John your artwork, did you talk shop on the pillow owls t-shirt? That should totally happen - if we cannot have a new album yet, at least let there be a t-shirt.
Great photos, by the way.

I didn't. I suck at pimping myself. Plus, I was completely distracted by the hugging that was going on and kind of forgot to even mention it. ^_^;;

Completely understandable.

King5 promo performance of New Girl by John and Sean online as well. Sounds a bit like Sean forgot what backing he once sang, but John sounds great and Sean's banter is still ace.
