A buddy of mine went to college with JoCo, and he tipped me off.

Then a few days later, via the email....

>I know, this album has already been out for around 15 years, but there’s no new one yet. So this is the official Artificial Heart tour, I just decided it.
>
> Listen, as much fun as it was traveling with and opening for They Might Be Giants, the 30 minute set created a lot of rockus interruptus for me and the band. We’re really looking forward to getting back out there with luxurious amounts of time on stage so we can play all the songs we know. And then I will also play some songs solo that only I know, perhaps on the acoustic guitar. IT WILL BE A REAL SHOW AND WE WILL DO A GREAT JOB. You should come.
>
> John Roderick from The Long Winters will be opening for me on all these shows. He is also fantastic, as you will know if you have ever cruised with us on JoCo Cruise Crazy.
>
> Hey, look at all these dates! Tickets on sale now!

I didn't even look, assuming Toronto wouldn't be on the list. Facebook told me otherwise! So glad the drought is coming to an end!

I'm trying to get Kathleen Edwards to show up to the Toronto gig for a song or two. John's already said on Twitter he's in, but no response from her yet. Checking her tour itinerary, she was in Philadelphia yesterday, and is off until the day AFTER the John and JoCo show in TO. So if she came home for the five days off, it's POSSIBLE it might happen... but I'm sort of doubting it.

Steven Page performed with John on the 5th is Rochester, NY, and (as it turns out), Kathleen Edwards DID show up to perform Honest and Commander with John in Toronto.

Recording should be up in the next 10 - 12 hours. ;)

EDIT: Snuck it in in 9 1/2 hours! http://blog.haterhigh.com/?p=3801

For those of you who followed John's tweets last week regarding his, uhh, let's call it a disagreement, with The Hilton. Here's some footage where he discusses his terms for detente: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJK77za5nQ8

I saw John (both) at The Ark in Ann Arbor last night. I didn't know much about JoCo, just the Zombie song and I'd heard Code Monkey a couple times.

Roderick played a pretty short set but he was the opening act so that was expected. We got Scared Straight, Shapes, Carparts, Prom Night at Hater High (someone requested it, he said he'd have never played it otherwise), Not Moving To Portland and Commander Thinks Aloud. I was one of the maybe ten Long Winters fans in the crowd and we went hard on John about the album and his lax tour schedule. He was, sadly, on fire with retorts and we were all crushed in our chairs. A fine booster shot of LW's showmanship.

Happily John had new shirts for the tour, first night available! I forget how to upload photos but I took a couple if anyone wants to "remind" me how to post images I can show you all what the shirt looks like!

As usual John hung around after the show and, with the memory of an elephant, talked about the last time he played in Ann Arbor in 2007. He remembered it as well as I did which was cool. I was assured that he'll be back before five years.

Summary: if you don't have your tickets now get them. The venue was sold out and a couple of our friends missed the show because they procrastinated. It's well worth the thirty or whatever dollars!

I don't have imgur or tumblr or anything like that and I can't be bothered to make an account. Is there any site I can upload the pictures to without jumping through hoops, like Facebook?

They're pretty nice shirts, and as a bonus John told us that this was the first night they were available. I wasn't the first person to buy one but oh well.

Caught J-Rod in Minneapolis Monday. Good stuff, as expected. The banter was flowing Rockstar on Nerd style.

Like Patr!ck, I (very) subtly inquired about the album. There is "Lot's of music recorded". Also, John played it for JoCo and the JoCo Band in the van, and the Maester of Nerds says it was great. So that's good, eh?

I also picked up a new L-Dubs Commander shirt to replace my rapidly deteriorating Penguin shirt.

Good stuff Little Winters. Check it out.

Can I allow myself reading (way too) much into the appearance of new shirts? Yay.
