"And she says, why didn't"...What's Sean saying?

Talk about the band, the records, the shows.

"And she says, why didn't"...What's Sean saying?

Postby Harvey Winters » Mon Nov 24, 2003 2:40 pm

"And she says why didn't it happen between us"?
("Would have I? Some where worse off than I knoooooooow")????

I'm not sure, and I'm getting no help from the CD booklet
(even though they put
"it's about time we took a ride"
in there...)

Anyone?
Please?

Rich

I thought it went like this:

John sings in the foreground: ...she said why didn't it happen between us...

Sean sings underneath: ...how stupid I would feel if I....

Then both together: Stupid...

But I could be (and probably am) wrong.

yeah, it sounds like what you mentioned three times there to me too.

what annoys me in the insert is in the lyriics to Shapes, "fools (Russian) where i fear to tread..." surely not

"Nincompoop" is just a great all-around word; you get three different and meaningful meanings out of it: one... 'NIN', i.e. the Nine Inch Nails; two... 'COM', I won't go there/for obvious reasons; and three... 'POOP', which is easily self-explanitory. Ah, what a great word.

I don't know why I thought of those three things when I saw the word, but I felt I needed to write about it anyway.

"Ninny", that word is hilarious. Now call someone a ninny outloud and record their reaction!

Back to the subect at hand:

For I while, I thought it was
"Stupid, for sayin' g'bye"

Makes sense, don't it?

The long one at the end, is baffling.
I tried reading Sean's lips at the last show I attended,
but there was nothing printed on them.....

I think the first few are just "stupid i would feel if I..." Im pretty certain about that (I'm pretty all the time, actually).

While the last one is "If i was somewhere else i would not have her."
or "If i was somewhere else I would not be here." Though, I'm not altogether certain on the veracity of the last one. Perhaps we could get some help...................

although hearing it on the record I'd say so too, live it seemed more like "stupid... why the hell did I", or something like that.
And for the record, I'm absolutely uncertain about that.

Perhaps we could get some help..................

those guys are laughing at us, I'm sure!
oh well, let's just bravely say it's good to have some mystery left, eh?

It was like that w/"The band from the before time" too...

There are still undeciphered lyrics over there...

I still don't know what a "secret Sharon Tate film" is....

The 'secret Sharon Tate film...' line was one of my harmony parts in Harvey Danger, so I sang it every night. He explained it to me but I don't remember wha ti twas, except that it was dirty.

And I have no idea what he's singing in Stupid either.

Last week I took this song to the car sing-a-long test, which is a sort of thing where I turn up the album and sit up as straight as I can and drive around making up harmonies when there aren't any and wrecking them when there are...any. My attempt at the "Stupid" harmony-lyrics led to: "she said! mleeegafhaa! whaaa! youhavenowaaaahhhh!"

And you can take that to the bank. I sounded f'in awesome, people.

WIPTF, the car sessions!
you'll surely be bringing a lot of money to the bank, Meg

I remember John saying the bus on their European tour had no stereo or radio, so they had to sing themselves.
