i really hate it when i get an email and open it knowing there will be no reason to even look at the bands playing before deleting it, but i look out of curiousity and just in case. so what do i find? in the midst of bands i don't know or don't care for is one band i love....

dammit....i hate you!

so now we're on the festival circuit are we? well aren't we special?!?! :)

i would love to take up the pre-sale offer and save $10, but i can't even really afford that right now. also, w/the fact it says "Lineup subject to change" make me wary. i'll just have to wait and hope i can get a ticket closer to the date of the festival.

The gorge is a huge place... I think waiting to get tickets is a safe bet. Don't sweat it.

Well, I don't know about the ONE band in the middle theory, Brutaful... if you enjoy The Long Winters, you will almost certainly dig The Shins, The New Pornographers and The Decemberists. Not only because they share "The" prefixes in their names, but because they all specialize in ultra-catchy, melodic pop music.

It's been a while since I've been back to Washington State, but a May homecoming sounds pretty agreeable right now.

you could be right, but here's the thing about me...i usually don't care for a lot of the bands that the "indie" crowd likes. most of the time i end up going "this crap is what everyone is talking about?!?!" and truthfully it's odd i like the long winters. they really aren't what i would normally like, but for some reason i got seriously hooked.
most of the bands on this line up i am familiar w/either by a song or two or only by name. the shins i have seen a few times, i enjoy them. heard a couple postal service songs, not too bad.
my point is that FOR ME there is only one band out of all of those listed that i care about. sure i could end up enjoying and liking a few others, but it's kinda hard for me to justify going for one sure thing. not that i won't do it if i can tho....

----------it will not sell out-----------

Post by thepeter »

last year sasquatch did not sell out with coldplay, flaming lips, modest mouse, death cab, and liz phair. this year's lineup is full of great bands that anyone in the NW can see twice a year, no problem.

I've seen the shins twice in the last year, both times for free.

i saw the postal service for $10 last year.

i've seen built to spill i think 9 times, two of which were in the last year.

sleater-kinney plays $10 NW shows with great regularity, and this last december cat power opened.

the new ponographers were in the NW last year for their own tour, and then again for bumbershoot.

the long winters are everywhere in the NW, as are the decemberists.

preston school of industry plays often too.

-----there is no one on this lineup that interests me whom i have not seen recently-----

my advice: show up and find people willing to sell a ticket to you for $20. that's what many of my friends did last year. after i got suckered into a $45 + TM charge ticket.

(though i've not heard of this apparently headlining thievery corp though. maybe they're huge or something and i don't know about it).

hey thepeter, i know a bunch of people who agree w/you. since the bill seems to be full of bands you can see w/frequency here they are passing on it unless a big national act gets on the bill.

i'm going to pass on it just for the fact that it's not really worth it for me to go. (no offense to tlw's of course)

My two cents, if I may. If we all -- Brutiful excepting -- prefer these incredible NW bands to mediocre national acts, why not pay $45 for a day of divine music at the country's most beautiful venue? Especially if you sandwich it between two nights of drunken revelry with hundreds of like-minded music fans? Have we not camped at the Gorge before?

And that makes me wonder... this year's lineup, as un-fucking-believable as it is, is only a fraction the size up last years. Have we cut back to one stage, or we anticipating some prolific additions to before laborday?

Either way,
see you in May.

thievery corporation are a two man operation out of DC who specialize in down tempo, latin tinged, lounge-y dance music. their position as headliners for the festival is totally strange to me and i can only guess that the promoters are trying to inject some european flair into their lineup by having a DJ act close the night. this will surely turn sasquatch into a camper van dance haven.
