super pop & gay! 4 REALZ.

Postby hovering » Sat Apr 03, 2004 7:17 pm

so listen up.

yesterday, I heard when I pretend to fall being played in a starbucks. then I heard "blue diamonds" being featured on yet ANOTHER one of their [secretly fantastic] thirty-minute horrible (but still, entertaining) television shows. then I see this on a rilo kiley site. what's next, guys?

heather, meg.. does this mean we have another barsuk band on their way to super pop and gay-ness? I believe only you two can answer this question, but I may be wrong.

oh, let's hope so.

it does seem they're being led down the proverbial garden path...

and death cab officially attained this status on wednesday night when "the new year" was played between bands at the get up kids show.

How was that Get Up Kids show anyway? They kinda went SPAG a couple years ago. I don't think it's that odd that they played Death Cab at the Graceland... last time I was there they played the Photo Album in the bar.

the long winters. I guess I missed out when they went SPAG! but oh well. rilo kiley could be next, though, especially since blake & jenny have "technically" hit stardom.

and, um, I totally saw the get up kids two weeks ago. and enjoyed it?
GUYS, I FEAR THAT I AM TURNING SUPER POP AND GAY.

No shame in loving the GUK [heh], but there IS shame in loving that adult contemporary rock debacle that was On A Wire.. Even this new one isn't GREAT, but it sure the hell isn't that other piece of shite.

Sorry, the Get Up Kids could never be Super Pop And Gay!!!!!!.. deal with it.

on a wire is one of the worst things i've ever heard. ever.
from the mouth of james dewees: "we wanted to try something new and be experimental, so we did on a wire. then we realized we needed to pay our bills, so we decided to never do that again."
so at least they [he] admits it.

but seriously, spag 2005 must happen. somewhere. anywhere.

could someone explain the superpop and gay thing? does it mean that the people who are SPAG both love pop music and are homosexuals? or is it gay as in happy? me so confused.

i could try to define it...but i think i'll leave it to heather...

(p.s. i find this hate of "on a wire" to be quite odd...sure it's no "something to write home about" but i have quite an affinity for songs like "overdue," "stay gone," "high as the moon," and "campfire kansas." oh well.)

The story goes that once upon a dream, some punk-ass over at the B'suk boards laid down a little slander at the DCfC alter they've got burning over there. The punk-ass said, "Yo yo yo! Hatin' on Transatlanticism! Thinkin' these boys is sell outs! Thinkin' the new album's a little super pop and gay!!!!!!!!"

That punk stood back and waited, thinking he'd set one hell of a fire.

And then there was silence, like there was silence in your elementary school cafeteria that time you first thought you'd try out the word "BITCH!" and you just happened to hurl it across the table at your BFF the same moment that the principal walked in and all. Was. Silent.

I don't want to talk about how you had your ears boxed that day, but I will talk about how, over at the B'suk boards, there was first silence and then laughter, riotous, riotous laughter. And it kept going. And going. The phrase was claimed so fast you couldn't even call it a reclaim.

(The shorter version is, "Not 'gay' like homosexual, 'gay' like 7th grade.")

As for the original topic, I think that in the battle of SPaG!!!!!!!!!!, R/K cleans up on the aG!!!!!!!!!!! while TLW own the SP.

But you're all number one in my heart.

I pretty much agree with everyone about On A Wire, and Chelsea - all the songs you mentioned are the only ones I like from that album, interesting. I liked the adult contempo comparison, heather.

I think this is the thread in which the canonical reference was made.

Regarding selling out, one "microbaiter" of Los Angeles, California had to say:
It depends for what. If they went super pop and gay, then that would suck, and I would be upset (that will never happen though)....

If only he'd known. Poor bastard.

On an only slightly unrelated matter, I think Josh and Emily should start charging their board users by the exclamation point.

Talk about an untapped revenue stream.
