The Site So Far

Postby John » Tue Apr 29, 2003 1:39 pm

Hey everybody,

thanks for joining us so enthusiastically in our week of beta-testing. We're now about a week out from our official site launch and you'll probably notice some stuff moving around and plenty of changes as we perfect the site. We've learned a lot so far.

We're putting the finishing touches on the site proper. Is there anything you'd like to remind us to include on the site? And are there any questions you'd like answered in the "frequently asked questions" section?

Thanks again, and keep up the good work, you fuckers!

-guitar tabs
-public service announcement
-fan pics,reviews,
-wallpapers,icons, desktop junk
-streaming music videos, or tour video some sort of video
-lyrics

When I roadtripped to a bunch of Midwest dates with Insane Clown Posse, there was a thing going on called "The Shaggy Show," in which Msrs. Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope would take a Camcorder all around and go hang out with/talk to kids who were at the venues, have them do impromptu interviews, film the crowd and get them to say crazy shit during the show, etc. It was a hundred kinds of adorable; they posted streams of "The Shaggy Show" every few days on the site and it was fun to live vicariously through them.
I remember thinking what a great idea it was, and that I wished an indie band would do that sometime -- and the LWs could, theoretically, unless yr nightly carousing does not allow for videorecording, or you find yrselves regularly doing things on tour that are not fit for public consumption.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that the Long Winters should aspire to be like Insane Clown Posse in many more ways (except, possibly, the facepainting/evil clown aspect), all of which should be incorporated into this website.

Plus, there should be way more naked chicks on the final version of the site than there are right now. And Booty Shotz!

That is all.

yo i would love to see an mp3 section, of live stuff and stuff from both albums., and make it the kind of mp3 that it stays on your comp once you down load it. i dont have a recording device, but still.

its great that theres a place to write thel ong winters, even though i wont write cause sean doesnt want me writing him, and rockstars NEVER EVER write back, unless youre anthony kiedis' dad man!!

i love stupid, its great. maybe ill write a song called "i love stupid" ha,ha, i can see it no.

im going to one of the shows on may 10th, dont know which one yet though.

i would like to see pictures, lyrics, maybe a pen pal section?

tabs would be great, id love to play lw on my acoustic. (i only know one song, violet by hole)

this site is going to be great and i cant wait to see it.

you could also post some avatars, im great at making them. ive got a n avatar website, but its just courtney right now.

I know they were already mentioned, but I think lyrics and mp3's are great ideas.

All these comments are very helpful and many of the ideas are already in the works. When we launch the site we'll be looking for feedback again. I think that the more media from different sources we have to work with, the more interesting the site will be.

Robot tatoo? neat-o.

Yes! what we need is on tour footage! Commentary on what the fans think about the band, yadda yadda. All good.
-Pictures!
-Pictures of the band with fans. (notice that I am implying this band should be very fan based, which is exactly what they are doing now.)
-Mp3s of unrealised songs
-FAQ

And everything else..

and of course one of the annoying questions should be posted and answered of the FAQ: How did the band come up with the name the Long Winters for a their band?

I think everyone should have their own theory. Here's mine: on the dvd for the movie "Soul Survivors" (terrible movie by the way), in the special features section there is a little mockumentary created by the boys of Harvey Danger. In it John Roderick also plays a bit role, his character's name was "Long" John Winters. Thats my story, and I'm sticking to it.

no seems to be taking well on to my idea of a public service announcement, i will explain my thought on this. each month the band, or a member of the band selects a worthy cause/charity or what not to be displayed as the PSA. I think it's a good idea and would swing well

as long as it isn't streaming audio, it should stay on your hard drive anyway, in the temporary internet files. just look for it there and save it
