to overwrite sounds on the microkorg you first have to turn off the write-protect function. you do that by pressing "shift" and the 8 key. then turn edit knob 1 back and forth. that will toggle write protect on and off and in this case, you want it off. once you have edited a sound to your liking, press "write" and your new sound will be saved. after you're done, turn write protect back on (shift,8, knob 1).
the key with the microkorg really is to pick out a sound and then start twisting knobs. those things on commander thinks aloud started off as a bass sound.
if you go to korg.com's download section you can find the pdf manual for the microkorg (control click, download linked file), and they also have a microkorg sound editor for both mac (os9, osx) and windows, for free.
