Brown Princeton

Postby I.T. » Mon Dec 10, 2007 11:02 am

Much has been said about the infamous Rickenbacker, but I feel that we should take a moment to honor its #1 partner in tone. John, what is the story behind your Princeton? How was it employed during the recording of PTDTB?

I wish to god I owned that brown Princeton. The real owner is Shawn Smith of the band Brad, I think. He left it at Litho Studios and I used it extensively on PTDTB. It's one of those amps that doesn't make any unpleasant sounds of any kind, no matter how you set it. But I've never owned an expensive amp. The most I ever paid for an amp was 900 bucks for an AC-30, and the rest of my stuff cost between $90 and $450. What are those Princetons going for, $1600 bucks or so? Crazy.

Brad? That sounds familiar.

Isn't that Stone's band?

Yes, Stone is in Brad. And I don't know why Shawn Smith would own a brown Princeton since he's a piano player.

He could always use it as a nifty hat rack...

The amp has nice tremolo. Maybe he uses it with a Fender/Rhodes Stage Piano?
