Japanese Guitars

Post by NatureBoy »

Through some good luck and a kind offer, I have the chance to get a guitar from Japan.

Their 'clones' (I won't say knockoffs, because their quality is often superior than American made gear) are plentiful and varied with labels like
Baccus, Greco, Orville, Tokai, Burny, Navigator, etc.

So accurate are they in their recreations that they are not allowed to be imported into the country. This one will be flying in an overhead compartment, commercial.

All I know is I want a "Les Paul", in Iced Tea or Tobacco Burst, but buying site unseen, and from Japan, is a whole different deal than going to a guitar store every lunch hour for a month and playing a few until one wins out.

Any thoughts out there on Japanese guitars?

I have a Rickenbacker 320-12 "tribute" made by Tokai, and I think it just sounds marvelous. Although it's said Japanese brand, it was made in Korea, which probably makes this post pretty much completely useless.
