That wooden thingy
That Sean clicks together after the "You know karate now?" part in Shapes, when they play it live. What's that called?

Our band had them on a little stand so you didn't have to hold them, made things a lot easier. I don't remember seeing Sean with anything more than his Tambourine and Keyboard though. Does that look familar to you?
Not exactly, it has a handle and a wooden piece in the middle of those wooden flaps.

I love the part of Sean's tour diary where he talks about his tambourine, or rather not having it - part 4, day 19 (the whole entry of that day and the day before his dreaded birthday is great, especially the immortal words "It's not being gray, it's going gray").

A Slapstick!! Thank you, thank you! That's the instrument I was thinking of but couldn't place the right name to. For the hell of it, lets throw what I was thinking of out there: The Vibraslap
I really doubt this is what we're aiming at though. However, castanets do come with handles -- I'll try to find a photo of one.

you can't start talking about time signatures in the middle of a discussion about wooden clicky thingys, Fi!!!! What are you thinking?!!?!?
anyway, i really don't care what those things are as long as sean keeps doing that nonchalant over the shoulder throw with them and making that hilarious astonished face. why is sean such a crazy rockstar?!?!?!?

alas
the handle castanets were lost in new york. stolen from a lesbian filmmaker, abandoned on the stage of the mercury lounge. where will they wind up next? no man can say. i should buy new ones, but it won't be the same.
