What's a good first effects pedal to buy?

The more I play through this damn Visual Sound Chorus/Echo H2O pedal, the more I think it's the coolest damn thing I ever plugged into. I doesn't so much sound like a chorus as it sounds like the sound of pure fatness.

Well I don't know how "entry-level" you actually are playing on a Gibson SG, but my first pedal was a Danelectro Daddy-O. The danny's are inexpensive and the Daddy-O is a nice overdrive pedal. I like being able to adjust distortion to the point where I can play individual notes without them sounding horribly distorted, but then get that barre chord crunch at the same level. Then again, my first pedal was a mult-effects beater, so I was just amazed to see a pedal that had 5 DIFFERENT KNOBS!
