Copernicus, from long ago

Postby NatureBoy » Tue Feb 17, 2004 5:43 pm

While at work I've been listening to this: http://gravlab.com/longwinters/live

and was floored by the version of Copernicus on here (it starts at @ 1:04:50)

The mood and tempo of this version continues to give me the chills...and the chord progression here is amazing. What are they/how does it go?

Some will notice the old 'night we hung old Lee' lyric from the WSH version...

Anyways, just thought I'd share - an oldie but goodie...

Actually, that line is exclusive to the LW version, if I'm not mistaken. The WSH version has a line something like (and I'm really not sure) "I don't want cries to have to call me". The WSH version also has a line "I know where his house is, and you don't. If you know where his house is, then you go.".

That said, the SAM show NB linked to was the only time I have heard them play Copernicus live (and the only LW live track I have of it). And they only played it to please the "slow Mimi crowd". I'd like to hear more from this song!

I'd prefer to consider myself a John Roderick/Sean Nelson historian. Hey, this is about as band nerdy as I can possibly get. All the threads that ask questions about instruments and such just go right over my head!

If only you could turn that into some sort of paid position. You could hire me as your filing clerk.

Maybe it is, and maybe it is!

I thought it was "I don't want christ to have to call me"...but that's just conjecture...

that link has spoiled me so much.
it has made me ask for fast mimi more than once, it has government loans, sound of coming down (one of the few songs from WIPTF I've not seen full band, although John & Sean did play it duo), three acoustic songs including the alternate version of carparts, AND copernicus

I don't think it has "government loans", does it?

Me too! Those surrounding me in my 'cubicle-hell' have no idea I am secretly attending TLW shows while on the clock...though this and one other (Graceland - 9.13.02) are the only bootlegs I have.

If they ever released a live disc, I don't know of many who wouldn't plunk down their hard earned duckets for some of that...

It would be the next "Frampton Comes Alive" or "Hot August Night"...

...and Only Living Boy in New York. I love their version...

"We're just gonna free-jam for the rest of the show if that's alright," -J.R.

EDIT: 2.20 - Unremarkable, do any of your shows have 'Scared Straight' on there, with the longer opening and the second coda?

Hey John! When you were recording the gtr on Copernicus, were you pretending to be Doug Martsch? (not that that would be a bad thing)
I can't believe i didn't hear the similarity the first eight hundred and six times i listened

Nope but I just recently got a show with an extended/alternate opening to "Bride and Bridal", and a cover of "Don't Tell Me" by Madonna.
