Chances are it's addressable by this guy:
http://www.thelongwinters.com/board/viewtopic.php?p=185

Does doublechecking the domain name improve it?

I'm not sure what the cause of this could be, but after I've logged in now, the links at the top of the screen (FAQ, Search, Memberlist, etc.) aren't links anymore. What I mean is it won't let me click on them, they're really nothing more than meaningless, though stylish, underlined text. Perhaps this is just my computer's way of protesting all the online street team action I'm part of...I don't know.

That happens to me all the time when i use AOL. They'll be yellowy when I first get there, but as soon as i click one they all go white which is just soooo irritating. If you use AOL, try just going to site through Internet Explorer instead. It works for me.

Seriously, most of the time it's this:
http://www.thelongwinters.com/board/viewtopic.php?p=185

Your experience of the site is identical at any of those addresses, but the cookies are all tracked separately (from each or any of those four versions of the domain). It's a browser thing.

Also, if you're not logged in, visit the site, and then login, you probably won't see any "new comments" icons.

FWIW.

At work, i continuously get "invalid_session" messages when I try to post. I get around it by copying my text, relogging in, and then as quickly as possible, replying to the post again by pasting the copied text. In a nut shell, it seems I don't stay logged in for more than several moments. Yet at home its all ok. My browser is simply Internet Explorer. Suggestions?

That error is usually caused by use of proxy servers--most often AOL is the culprit, although your company may be using proxy servers as well.

The usual raindance is to logout from the messageboard, kill your cookies (for any *longwinters.com), restart the browser, and then login from http://www.thelongwinters.com/board/ (note that's "THElongwinters.com").

It's a pretty common problem, but, FWIW, it usually goes away on its own in a day or so. Let me know how it goes for you.

A recent update may fix the invalid_session problem.

I'll try to upgrade in the next couple days.

somehow, when I open a forum but only read one or two topics where new entries have been posted, and leave the others unread, if I then close the browser and come back to the site later, I don't get the unread topics showing up orange anymore.

I tried the cookie thing, but it doesn't fix the problem.
any ideas, Merlin?

of course, if you are busy posting a new long road journal entry on the website, see to that first ;-)

I see what you're saying, but I think it's actually working correctly (or at least to spec).

I think the cookie's remembering the last _session_ you had (meaning the last time you were on the site and then went away).

The orange ones are ones that have been added since your last session, irrespective of whether you read them.

Does that make any sense?

Mmmkay...I registered a few days ago as 'whathedickens' and never got my confirmation e-mail. Therefore, I just registered again so I could post. I'd reaaaally like to be able to use that other account as opposed to this one. Then a mod/adim could just delete this one. Don't know if that would work, though. Could another confirmation be sent so I'd get the activation link?

Thanks
