Incorrect times: known bug + a hack

Postby Merlin » Fri Apr 25, 2003 9:08 am

Just so you don't think we're flaky, the incorrect time shown is a known bug of the software we're using

I changed the timezone and the time is still wrong!
If you are sure you have set the timezone correctly and the time is still different, the most likely answer is daylight savings time (or summer time as it is known in the UK and other places). The board is not designed to handle the changeovers between standard and daylight time so during summer months the time may be an hour different from the real local time.

I'm informed by no less a technology authority than Captain Roderick that you can "fake" the correct time by, um, changing your time zone one click east in your profile. So if you're in Albany, NY, change your setting from "GMT -5" to "GMT -4". This would then need to change again when we go off DST in October. But you knew that.

That this will hopelessly skew our ability to determine how many Long Winters fans live in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean is the problem of the site manager and certainly not yourself.
