Documentary Film about The Long Winters
Moderators: Moderators Emeritus, Moderators
Barsuk will acknowledge it next Monday, December 1st with a home page announcement, and press release and distribution to their email list, which will also include pre-order information.Moni wrote:Ta-dah!
EDIT: I'm wondering if Barsuk is ever going to acknowledge the existence of this DVD.
EDIT2: I just noticed the disc is NTSC - it's region-free though, I hope?....
Even though it is available for pre-orders now through Amazon and such, I'd still recommend buying through Barsuk if you want it to arrive as close to the release date as possible. Sometimes with Barsuk, new releases even arrive before their release date.
Also, even though it's NTSC, it is region free.

Dang nab it -as we say in England. I just placed my monthly Barsuk order. I may have to wait until December pay day.
Re: Documentary Film about The Long Winters
Update: Barsuk will not acknowledge its existence until Monday, December 8, the day before the release date.

Aw geez. Now I wonder if I should order via amazon after all.
Anyway, weird.

I love Barsuk, but sometimes I scratch my head in their general direction.

Hmm I cannot really think of a good reason to push back the announcement until one day before the release... I mean there must be a good reason why books/records etc. are usually announced one to more weeks before they are released. Giving out press info one day before everyone can buy the disc certainly cannot be a good a idea, and as for customers, is Barsuk afraid they are going to forget about DVD in the week between announcement and release?? Huh.
Anyway, I just ordedered my copy from Amazon.
EDIT: Okay I just saw Barsuk announced they signed "Say Hi" (like that couldn't have waited another week?), maybe that's the reason.

I feel like the anticipation felt in looking forward to something is an important thing to stoke, and if no one knows about this until it's out there is no anticipation to build. I think something valuable is lost there.
Alternatively, the idea that someone will see something about this and immediately buy it on the spot is pretty compelling too. And a lot of people might read it and try to remember to buy it a week later, but ultimately won't. So there's that.
I just don't know which is the stronger force. But hey, they own and operate a record label and I don't, so I don't feel bad about what they're doing in this case.
Maybe when the doc comes out things will be different. As it stands, we're only one week out.

Re: Documentary Film about The Long Winters
I think perhaps a DVD is a different thing from an album and more of a 'spur of the moment' decision thing. But then again, that's what presale is good for, and I think we've had presales one week ahead of the release. But hey, as long as it comes out. And I will wait for Barsuk, because I have bad experiences with Amazon, having to pay import fees and shit like that. I should have it by x-mas which will make it brilliant timing.
