It took me to do two years to do the two cam / amateur video / camera audio recording ... so I can't imagine how long it will take with pro equipment and separate audio. Synchronization is a bitch!

The sync did indeed take a long time, but in order of length, the most time consuming part was the edit itself:

Troubleshooting footage conversion from wacky capture software to something FCP2 likes (without footage compression or degradation): 2.5 months
Sync of audio tracks with video in timeline: 1 month
Editing: 6 months
Post Sound: 2.5 months
DVD Authoring: 3 days

Total: @ 1 year

If it had been shot conventionally, the time could have been cut in half (likely more) due to some slick multi-cam editing features in the editing program. Unfortunately, capturing live to PC laptops in backpacks with wonky proprietary software made it so that each camera captured the footage in 5 minute chunks.

Those chunks then have to be put in a sequence and checked for dropped frames (and moved on the timeline to compensate). Count on about a dozen per camera - had to edit around these throughout the show. Did that for each camera angle before bringing all the separate camera sequences into one 'nested sequence'. Lined that up with the audio before editing.

That's the jist!

There have been many more moments I've thought about how happy I am to be doing this than times when the frustration has felt like too much.

A wise friend in a similar situation told me, "The fruition is the best part, outside of retrospect."

The live show DVD is done.

If you want Barsuk to put it out, it couldn't hurt to tell them so over on that thread so they know how interested people are in it.

That's all I can really say at this point in time.

Wait...are you saying that after all the work you and other people put into this, Barsuk is just going to sit on it and only release it if they think there'll be enough interest, or are they just not releasing right now, waiting for a more opportune date?

I took that as Barsuk's not involved... but he would be open to Barsuk distributing it, if they showed any interest. I like that better than the idea of Barsuk sitting on it for godonlyknowshowlongifitseverevenreleasedatall.

This is a complex situation as it stands right now, and I won't go into detail because the discussion is still ongoing, even today.

Hope is not lost, even though things have moved slower than we have hoped. Barsuk has some smart people there who don't make these decisions lightly. I'm glad the project and the prospect of its release is being treated with a level of seriousness that it is.

That being said, I'm doing all that I can to make this work in a way that will be best for the band, the label, and you guys getting a cool package. No one on either side wants TLW to release a clunker.

To be continued...

That's all we can ask for. Thanks for the update! If we can do anything to help move along the process, let us know!
