interview on AOL

Postby Liesbeth » Sun Dec 03, 2006 4:21 am

AOL did an interview with John for their DL show. It's neatly edited to a bunch of very enjoyable bitesize quotes.
Direct link to the interview,
link to the whole DL thing.

Man, I really wish they hadn't edited it down so far. That looks like a really fun interview. And I wouldn't mind knowing why I have John's ball in my mouth.

I like the interview outtake on the DL page better. The edited video doesn't capture John's snarkiness as well.

Is there something else? This is all I could find.

I agree with Jason, my 'neatly edited' remark was slightly sarcastic. I nearly commented on the A in AOL, but didn't think I should start an American-European feud on a Sunday.

It is just an unedited minute and 45 seconds of John answering the question, "Why so many bandmates?". It is right under the edited video on the DL link you posted.

Funny enough, the official policy of AOL is that the A no longer stands for anything. Same with the letters in AARP.

At least these interviews are free now!

I must be blind, but I don't see that other interview. I did involuntarily witness half an item about Gwen Stefani because of this - why anyone would want to bother making an item about how she was more fun before is quite beyond me, but then I never saw her as a role model.

Hmm, the interview outtake is gone now. It was there to the right of the main screen when The Long Winters interview was one of the 9. I'll do my best to relay it to you though. The Long Winters Interview outtake, "Why so many band mates?” loosely quoted:

Interviewer: "I went to The Long Winters website. I printed out the bio and it just kept coming and coming. I went to the printer and it was like 9 pages. Why so many band mates? Is it because you have a really long history or because you are incredibly hard to work with?"

John: "Did you actually read it?"

Interviewer: "I'm not really a reader".

John: "or did you just fold it up and put it in your backpack?"

Interviewer: "I'm not much or a reader".

John: "Too many big words for ya?"

Interviewer: "Yeah, I don't like words, how people read books is beyond me".

John: "Yeah, a lot of people have been in the band but it is more because I have a magnetic personality, I'm sexually insatiable, so I need to have a lot of people around."

Interviewer: "Always someone different".

John: "Always someone new, I like to have people in the band that don't actually play musical instruments, so that's complicated".

Interviewer: "What do they do then?"

John: "A lot of standing around, a lot of fetching. Get me a sandwich, get me some water".

Interviewer: "A lot of standing then".

John: "But the music certainly hasn't suffered because most of them aren't plugged in, although some of them think they are (John does air guitar) 'Yeah, that sounded great'."
