So...shameless self promotion time!

I'm sure if you've been to this board more than once or twice, you've seen me promote The Long Winters Music site located at thelongwinters.rawkpaperscissors.com. Well, after winning the award for longest URL in the history of the internet for seventeen consecutive years, I decided to cave and open up a new domain address. One that rolls off the tongue, and can be recalled upon at the drop of a hat! Thus...

HaterHigh.com

You'll still find the same great tabs (actually, a handful of been improved upon!) and some excellent Lossless FLAC downloads (including five from the last week!) -- but the site is now also home to the one-stop-shop for MP3 samples and high(er) quality downloadable video clips! I'm hoping to expand the site out a bit more, but I need your help!

What else could I put on the site, without stepping on the toes of the formidable Long Winters Library, run by the lovable Liesbeth? I was thinking lyrics might be a good idea, seeing as the official site still lists Ultimatum as to-be-released -- but I'm unsure if that would be crossing the line of copyright infringement? Any other suggestions? What do you like to see on music websites? Can you contribute anything? Because that, too, would be awesome!

Also, if you find any broken links or encounter any other sorts of problems, please let me know so I can correct it immediately! Site design comments and suggestions would be not only appropriate, but appreciated, as I'm not entirely sure I'm happy with the redesign. Any and all help will be rewarded with cookies!*

Thanks so much guys, and I hope you enjoy the resource.

Jason.

*or maybe thank yous, depending on availability of cookies.

I think somebody should collect covers of Long Winters songs by other artists and put them in a uniform place (either on HaterHigh.com or the L&A). That would be amazing...

And maybe a more complete collection of TLW-related internet links. Liesbeth? Here's what I'm thinking:

Official Site: http://www.thelongwinters.com
At Barsuk: http://www.barsuk.com/bands/thelongwinters
Elec-Tronic Salon: http://www.thelongwinters.com/board/index.php
Library and Archive: http://thelongwinters.megalies.com/
Hater High (media): http://www.haterhigh.com
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/thelongwinters
MySpace Groups: http://groups.myspace.com/Unsaltedbutterismypunishment
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2210229608 and http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2256910787
Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Long_Winters
Archive.org: http://www.archive.org/details/TheLongWinters
Last.fm: http://www.last.fm/music/The+Long+Winters
Last.fm Groups: http://www.last.fm/group/The+Long+Winters
Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/thelongwinters/
Through With Love: http://www.dorsiafilms.com/
Artist Direct: http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/music/a ... 94,00.html

etc. etc.

But, really. It looks great and that's a perfect URL. Thanks for all the hard work!

Yep, I've been working on a who's who page for the library for the past 1,5 years, which is now actually nearly done and will include all those internetlinks. However, that kinda thing can never be in enough places, really.

I'd say lyrics is an excellent idea, along with the tabs that makes a great set, we do want everyone to sing the correct lyrics. Don't think John will have a problem with it, but just mail him and you'll know.

I've been toying with the idea of a cover section, but never got round to it so far (it would have to cover TWL covering other bands, as well as other bands covering TLW). I would not be able to host files though but perhaps HaterHigh could.
Man, I should get such a cool URL too.

On a related note: does anyone happen to know who made http://www.thelongwinters.net? It's has no contact info whatsoever. I'm just curious who would go through the trouble of making a site, then puts an album by the Long Winters' Stare in the discography - is this some sort of spam thing or is it genuine?

I am currently using about 4 gigs of 50 alloted, and have 120 gigs of bandwidth each month that I don't even come near approaching. I am happy to help you or this site host any files your servers can't handle. If you're looking to get a URL -- do so quick. Prices are about to rise.

Title: Before the Dawn, So Go the Shadows of Humanity

1. Blood Of The Nazarene
2. He Is Insane
3. War Epic
4. Carry On My Wayward Son
5. Into The Darkness
6. Hounds
7. Remain Life Eternal
8. Into The Sun

Oh man! I WISH The LDubs made songs with these titles. Oh man!

That's actually a relatively well-designed site... not just completely thrown together or anything. Hmmm...

HOLY HELL I LOVE THE NEW TITLE LOL!!!one11one!

As for the whole copyright infringement thing, I doubt anyone in the band gives a shit what you do with the music content, but I bet the boys over at Barsuk may have a thing to say about it. When all else fails: ASK JOHN!

But srsly, good work Jason!!!

I'm really glad you all like it, but like the main page says -- we all deserve the praise. It's all tabs we've written, recordings we've made, mp3's we've discovered, etc. etc. So, way to go, Little Winters. We've done well.

I've been uploading all the Long Winters stuff I have on my computer, but I'm almost depleted. If you have any SHN/FLAC/MP3 stuff I'm not sharing, it's probably because I don't have it (or have been explicitly asked not to share it). Shoot me a PM, and I'll give you a username and password to upload goodies to the site via FTP. I'll shoot John an e-mail this weekend inquiring about the lyrics thing, since it seems unanimously to be considered a good idea. Thanks for the feedback, and seriously, any suggestion big or small will be welcomed with open ears. :) Happy Easter weekend, all.

EDIT: John gave me the go-ahead. Expect the changes to be up this evening, as well as one more lossless recording and at least one more MP3.

a few more suggestions:
- add an indication of file size with the video files (e.g. if you put the blue diamonds file up as I sent it to you, you sure want to warn people about what they are about to download!)
- one wrong date in the navigation bar: Austin was 16 March, not April
- for the avid downloaders it might be cool to add a text file for each show, (just could just use the info that's in that particular frame), so you can download that along with the song files... (I'm speaking from experience, yeehah!)

I'm updating the media section of the Library to include links to the files you have on offer, so send me a pm or e-mail when you update HH.com and we'll keep synchronised.
Did that sound nerdy?

The file size for the video files was put up early yesterday or the night before. I'm so on the ball.

Thanks for the Austin show. I've noticed I keep putting it in as April even though I know damn well it was in March.

I am totally planning to put up txt files and md5 checksum files for the downloads -- in all likelihood, next week (although I may get bored tonight and do it all then?). Great suggestion, though. :)

Expect to get a lot of PM's, because I've been updating almost non-stop since the site went live (that's what happens when I get two straight days off!).

This is a really weird thing to throw out, but I currently have a website that I pay to be hosted that I have done absolutely positively nothing with in the four years I've owned it.

Meaning, I'd be happy to host some files if it would be of help to ya'll. :)

I have about 15 lossless audio shows hosted, a number of videos and other do-hickeys, plus two other sites on the same server and I'm not even at 10% of my total allotted space... so I think I'm ok for now. Not that it would be a bad idea to have a mirror as a back-up... but it seems like that would require more effort and synchronization than it's actually worth. I appreciate the offer, though. Maybe Liesbeth will take you up on it?

Also, I put the lyrics up. Much of the new stuff was typed at a finger-cramping 100 words per minute while barely conscious (it immediately preceded a four-hour nap!), so if you find any typos or errors, please don't hesitate to point it out and/or call me names.

If anyone has lyrics to Shanty Town or Christmas With You Is The Best, that would be awesome, too.

ps. If anyone would like a FREE [username]@haterhigh.com forwarding e-mail address, send me a pm with the requested user name and address you would like the e-mail forwarded to.

And no, I will not give you john.roderick [a-t] haterhigh.com unless you actually are John Roderick.

by posting that e-mail address like that you just guaranteed a bunch of spam on it ;-)

here's one source for Shanty Town: http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/folk-song-lyrics/Shanty_Town.htm It's not completely what's sung though, that's traditionals for ya...

I've seen lyrics for Christmas With You on several lyrics sites, just google for the full title + the word lyrics and you get a number of different hits.

No, it is very helpful. Like I said, I appreciate the offer, but I have tonnes of space which probably won't be filled soon (they keep giving me more, too!).

Also, thanks Liesbeth for the lyrics hookups. :)
