I don't know why, but the eye-rolling thing doesn't seem to have worked in our house.

Hmm.

rolling one's eyes, and one's eyes rolling into the back of one's head are pretty different.

When trying to link to John's recent blog from work this morning I was met with this....

This is new, I've never gotten this before! What the hell is John writing about?!?!?

It's mostly smart, funny stuff that the peeps (yes, I just used the word peeps) on this board would probably find amusing.... good songs about DNA, James Bond Villain love songs and Code Monkeys.

Yeah, that's funny NYA, that's what I thought when I read that as well - from now on I think I should only write about bands that you like. And Dolly Parton.

It's about time I start getting some recognition for my awesomeness.

I'm sick of taking second fiddle to Elmo in my own house.

This was my favorite from this week's..

"If you try to buy a tee-shirt after their show, you’ll be invited to sign their mailing list. Don’t sign anything!"

I had to laugh and think of all the times I have been asked to sign up for mailing lists. Who knows what those could REALLY be for!?!? Admit that you will now think of this every time you are asked from here on out.

Once when I was like 16, I signed a petition while in line for a They Might Be Giants show, and I put the first two letters of my name too close together, so I received mail for "Ayn O_____" for the next 5 years or so. Which could be a nice name for any possible daughters that I want to champion the forces against collectivism.

Also, a friend was friends with a band, and one of the member's day jobs was "spammer"... so there may be legitimate cause for concern. On the other hand, I got a coupon to buy one lunch get one free for a bbq place the other day, so it could go either way.

Right. You can't trust ANYONE. I donated to NPR this year and all the sudden I'm getting pretentious junk mail that says things like, "$500 off your stay at this all green tucson spa when you donate to your favorite charity!"

NPR! Everyone knows NPR is a force of pure goodness and sweetness and light fighting a battle against darkness and trickery and making humanity whole again...BUT NPR SOLD ME OUT.

You can't trust anyone.

WRONG!

Formerly of Pedro the Lion and theoretically still a part of the band Headphones.

The Microphones are pretty awesome, as well, but are the Olympia/Seattle/Anacortes-area music project of Phil Elvrum and friends, not including Dave Bazan.

Edited to add that everything else seems accurate.

my bandmates can’t stop to tie their shoes without setting up a wireless network

That quote, while hilarious, also confirms that at least Nabil and Eric are still in the band...

EDIT: And why does Toronto always get shit on?! Haha. But it's true. I've seen the Long Winters play in front of two people, then two hundred, and a handful of shows in between. And yes, the Pitchfork review makes all the difference in the world.

i related to the part of watching a band go in reverse with their success. i've seen it! i immediately could think of a band that did that. a little band where once i along with about a handful of others werethe only ones watching them and then practically a year later they were being played on MTV. they "blew up" in terms of having what a lot of bands are hoping for but then after a couple years and many member changes later they broke up and that was that. it was kinda sad. now some of them are in a different band and i think they are back to having a small local following. i think it would be rough to be "almost famous".

i remember someone i used to know who was so determined in the fact that he would be famous. i of course went along with it "uh huh, sure you will be", but man, the odds are so slim that inside i was thinking "it's never gonna happen".

Is it because of the war-profiteering fantasy? Because that's why it's my favorite.

another omg-so-true-i-relate blog. im wondering if johns comment on a band members stand up comedy thing was a reference to me calling mr. rothman speakeasy giggles? fun thought to ponder! cause if he were in prohibition hed be at a speakeasy, then he would wander off to giggles nightclub, which is a comedy club. hhahahhah.

i saw eric at the pretty parlor, heehee.
