If I'm not mistaken I may have announced last year's board swap as a good way to get great music while waiting for a new Long Winters album. Well, we're still waiting and I could do with some more good music. Anyone else with me here?

How does this work again: if you want to participate, sign up by posting a hearty OY, A DOZEN SWAPS AIN'T HALF IMPRESSIVE. Around the 20th of November I will pair everyone up and you will then make a mix cd for each other. Since this call comes a bit later than usual, I was thinking it might be interesting to make the deadline Valentine's Day 2010.

A possible theme suggests itself, and I can hear you think 'nah, too soggy!'. But if I may quote our King God from one of his recent shows, how about a mix of 'emotionally ambivalent songs'? Throw in a hate song for good measure by any means!
Anyway, themes are optional and to be decided between the swappees.

Amazingly, after all this time and with quite some old school participants, it's still possible to team everyone up for a blind date with someone they haven't swapped with before. I think.

I've had grant's for a while and have been enjoying it. Mine was sent out last week, so hopefully he'll get it soon. Our swap is almost successful!

It is totally successful - to the point where my spouse has taken listening rights. (A car repair is also involved, but yes, the CD is being spun in the living room rather than during my commute to work.)

It has crunchiness!

You know a swap is successful when you end up buying three or four albums from artists on the mix. I would recommend "Say Something" by Via Audio in particular.

Doesn't that Via Audio just stick in your head like anything? It was one of the songs I discovered on blip.fm. It put me off writing songs for a while (probably a good thing), because everything I did started sounding like it (at least in my head).

I was having problems getting to the post office when they were open, and when I got there, they had to look up where the Netherlands was! I hope you enjoy the mixes as I enjoyed making them. I"m glad mine got to you, that Japanese address was even more of a challenge than getting the mix done in time; at which you beat me anyway. My husband said that it looked like Chris raided my cd collection, but in fact there was a lot of new stuff there as well, great mix.

Tell me a story about Swearing at Motorists. I only know them from one song on an a capella compilation, and half assumed they only came into existence for that.

Don't know awfully much about them, but I got to know them when singer Dave Doughman did a solo support slot for Centro-matic or one of their other incarnations. Really stark stuff and it stuck in my mind, although it took me ages to actually download an album. Love his vocals and guitar playing.
