my new favorite summer drink (of which i had three today and concocted myself) is a shot of gin, some newman's own lemonade, and a shot of raspberry syrup (the kind you use for italian sodas). TASTY!

I'm pretty steady in my love for sparkling mineral water, summer or winter, but a cold glass of white wine is also excellent in the sun. Or witbier, a blond Belgian beer, perfect for drinking on a terrace.

I'm still on a low alcohol regime and cocktails are out of the question...
On a related note, I'm not sure if the guy on the balcony over us is blatantly drunk or just crazy, but for the past half hour he has been singing along to his walkman loudly. To make it worse, he is playing an eighties hit compilation - although I have to admit he knows all the words flawlessly, he is most definitely tone deaf.
Long live summer!

Well my favorite summer drink would have to be a cold beer. But unfortunately Portland's made me a complete beer snob so it's gotta be a microbrew--some good IPA, hefeweizen, or if it happens to be a cool evening I'll go with a tasty porter (preferably with some chocolate :)

little update on the eighties hit situation: someone on the block decided to act swiftly... by putting their stereo outside and on max volume.

bloody hell, no, it's the same guy, but he took his head phones off and is now singing along to volume 10

- Makers and soda, twista lime
- mojito
- when i'm feeling rich, $11 bottles of sparkling wine from everyone's fave chain deli, A.G. Ferrari. Seriously, it's the "Prosecco", and it is slammin. Try it.

NOTE: Talking of summer drinks, if you happen to be in the Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco, and there happens to be a heavily tattooed, Bettie Page haired woman behind the bar named Starla, do not i repeat DO NOT order the pink lemonade. You will forget your own name. That is a promise.

Lemonade, the real stuff, made with actual lemons. Or, better yet, limeade made with key limes. And none of this honey or brown sugar or (God forbid) sweet-n-lo, nutrasweet, sucralose tosh. White sugar. In the case of key limeade, vast quantities of it.

I agree with Grant. Give me the real deal. I like to throw mint sprigs from my garden into a frosty pitcher of limeade. Perfect with spicy Mexican or Thai.

I like water too. It's the life juice.

But I like beer better. Negra Modelo with lime.
